Come on now we have all done something stupid/ embarassing whilst working on a mini, why not post them up so we can all have a laugh, i will start
Yesterday i disconnected my alternator to take it off and sort it out, after putting it back on i didn't plug it back in, as you can all guess my battery went flat whilst at a mates party last night, then i suddenly remembered and got laughed at alot :(

I set fire to my oily boiler suit while welding the floors. Never noticed til it was well on fire....glad I always have the extinguisher handy when im welding. Took ages for the hairs to grow back on my leg.

In my youth i actually did:-

Fill my mini with oil through the dipstick hole (took ages and was so proud)

My dad told me before doing a long journey home to make sure I filled her with water, which I did. He then asked when I got home if I managed it ok
'Yep fine, pleased I did it as my windscreen washer works now'... :genius: ...he just shook his head at me.

Put the suspension cone in upside down and wondered whyy it was sitting lower than before ...

The fuel pipe split when we were putting hi-lows on, which sent petrol flooding through the boot, onto the back bench and finally onto the garage floor. It took ages to get rid of the smell

Was twisting the dizzy with the engine on to tune the timing a bit better and the little black wire from the diz (name escapes me for now) unclipped and fell onto the starter solenoid. Big bang and the dizzy turned into a flaming torch for a while. New pants please.

Asking someone to stick their foot on the brake to do up a hub nut, forgetting the calliper/pads are still off on the other side!

Cleaning my air filter, and as I was putting it back on I did't put the nut back on. So about a month and a half later when i got to do it again, i found my air filter was hanging off and had been moving around which damaged it a bit. Did make it sound pretty good though!

A couple of things.
Was using a timing light, had a screwdriver in my hand for some reason, touched the spark lead extension piece, sent a shock made me throw the screwdriver across the street.

Whilst replacing a floor panel, cut through the fuel lines, spilling petrol on the floor which then caught fire. Then came a few minutes of blind panic to get some water on it and stop my wooden garage going up. Luckily didnt have the petrol tank in it, just the fuel left in the pipes.

thought i'd ran my old mini out of petrol to change the sender unit, to my mistake there was still pretty much half a tank which decided to flood into my face, in the boot and right through into the cabin. then got up a sparked up a cigarette in shock!!

its not rally whilst working on his mini but its still quite stupid...
well my boyfriend (davies145) full well knew he had a massive hole in his inner sill, so anyway we are off back to derby from London, 130mile trip, in the poring rain, after about an hour on the motor way in this rain, we both look down at the passenger floor at a massive pool of water in the foot well. i just couldn't help but laugh :- 3 days later and yet the carpets are still soaking.

Evil for me laughing so much at this, but it was rather funny

I pulled the locking pin out of our rotisserie while once and my estate shell swang down and almost destroyed it's roof on the gas bottle of our mig welder. I just about crapped myself.
