No matter how friendly or helpful never invite a 'scrap metal collector' onto your property or into your garage where he can see what you have (he may 'case the joint' and tell all his mates or come back when you are not around to help himself)............always take the scrap out to him in the road or tell him to call back later when you can put it out on the edge of your property.

Yeah I know to this I would never let them on my property

Next time they come, take photo's of them and make it obvious that's what you're doing, probably best to have the dog with you at this stage!

Not sure if this was solved as i skipped 2 pages, but park something infront of it, i know its impratical, but see if you can beg borrow or steal somone elses car for a few days so they cant get to it, they'll get bored and find something else to steal.

Gypsie scrap man tried to take my dads mates old Audi. He bought a house and an old shop next to each other to renovate, so when he was there working he kept the Audi on the front bit of the shop, then one day gypsies came with a car transporter and were actually going to just take the car! then dads mate went outside asking what the hell they were doing around his car and they said they had been told to take the car away because it was scrap  then he said 'no you bloody ain't because it's my car so go' and they did, lol. And when I was younger the gits stole my little push scooter :( it had lighting up wheels as well! the next day mum saw it on the back of their transit <_<

Like already been said, make yourself known and let them see you doing stuff to your mini.

they come to our garage all the time:) funny lot they are, i dont know how they can make a living ( or what they can call a livnig) but we find if theyre well fed with scrap motors and rusty body panels ( we do restos) they tend not to bother us.

offer them a peace offering?? in metal :P a few busted 998 engines will go down well

Shotgun ..... Police won't touch them, they never do. We had huge issues with gypos on a farm i worked on. Ended up fencing and locking everything and getting some dogs... Atleast recent court rulings suggest that you will be able to give them a good hiding without being locked up, although they know where you live and i wouldn't put it past them to try something.... scum

Go on ebay, Buy yourself a cheap non running white Astra of Vectra and get some cop car style graphics made up (obviously dont ever drive the car on the road and pretend to be a cop)

but simply park this fake cop car next to the mini. It might just put them off. Even better if you can move the fake cop car every now and again to make it look more realistic. If the car was just sat and never moved it would run the risk of people sussing it out as a fake. Just turn it around to face in the opposite direction and park it in different positions around the mini.

I think that might be a bit extreme. And i know the pikeys arnt exactly scientists but there not baboons ( All though very close to it ) so i think they would work out that its not real

Couple of months ago I had a traveller knocking on my door asking if the 'radiator' left in my drive was scrap or not, I was a bit confused at 1st but turned out it was the engine cover for my camper van that I'd accidentally left out after changing the alternator belt. Would have been very easy for him to take it without anyone batting an eyelid, yet despite what threads like this would have you believe he didn't.

Of course there's plenty thieving scum in the traveller community, just like there is in all communities, but to say ALL gypsies are on the rob is a gross assumption and just plain *******.

lol they were most probally seeing if you were in, before they stole it
