did you know the bubbles in your alcoholic drink come from impurities in the glass,

my misses used to work in one of the top restaurants in the country, and the number of rich people trying to show off infront of people they'd brought along was rediculous. they'd say their champagne was flat because it had no bubbles.

in a perfect glass you dont get any.

Uber posh champagne glasses get small notches etched into the bottom so bubbles are formed :)

They say TV teaches you nothing! ( thanks james and oz wine programme :) )

most glasses do, like pint glasses are purposely etched, usually with the brand on alcohol inside it.
when the misses did a tasting with Moet, thats when they were told about the lack of bubbles thing.

I like stuff chilled to but why do pubs always give you a whole glass full of ice and especially do if your getting a soft drink so they save on
how much coke they give you!

This is still the case if the pub uses one of those free flow soft drinks guns where they press and hold a button on the gun for the corresponding drink and hold the nozzle in the glass until it's full. More and more places use metered dispense systems these days though, so that they can control stock levels more accurately. With these machines they press a "medium size" or "large size" button on the machine, which dispenses an exact number of fluid ounces into the glass which will fill it to the brim if it has a set amount of ice in the bottom. If you ask for the drink without ice you should still get exactly the same amount of drink in the glass but the glass won't be quite as full.

This is very true, if you look in the bottom of most branded larger pint glasses, you will probably see that a logo has been etched into the glass on the inside. This isn't just corporate branding, the etched logo makes the bottom of the glass more abrasive causing the drink to bubble more. Glasses with these logos in are often known as "sparkler etched" and many breweries/drinks manufacturers supply pub chains with these glasses for free as a form of marketing, as they want their larger to appear very bubbly.

its also very bad, if you get served a drink in a different brands glass.

i.e. a carling in a carlsberg glass.

you can also refuse a pint, if the barperson picks it up by the rim (their hand above the glass where you then drink from). its particularly a problem in the barperson is short or the bar is high and its difficult for them to reach over.

i was always taught, the bottom is yours (seller), the top is theres (buyer).

They have to tell you if they are putting your carling in a carlsberg glass or whatever the combination. It will also taste different (in theory) because the etching on a carling glass is designed to create the correct number/volume/size of bubbles for carling so if its poured into a carlsberg glass it wont taste right (also, carling is nasty anyway so its swings and roundabouts for me haha)

Yeah when I worked in the industry the big breweries used to send "mystery shoppers" in to the place, to specifically ask for one of their own drinks to see if it came in one of their branded glasses or not. Time and time gain I would get an earbashing from our headquarters, because we had failed yet another mystery shopper visit because some idiot and served them a pint of Stella in a Heineken glass!!

The worst is getting ale in a carling glass! Only happened to me once but I laughed and walked out the pub, never been back since

I can sympathise. I used to be a food and beverage manager and when I worked in the industry I virtually gave up going out in the end. Not only did I not want to spend my time off on licensed premises (busman's holiday etc.), but also I would just become fixated on how poor the standards were everywhere that I went. Going to restaurants was even worse though, I would just look at the food on the plate and be calculating in my head how much profit they were making on it, or guessing which local supplier the food had come from. In the end I resorted to only ever eating out in Macdonalds, as at least I knew that their food and their standards were always going to be predictably low and so I was never going to be disappointed!!

These days I work for the NHS and now spend my time off criticising all the things that they are doing wrong on all the various hospital documentaries on telly and how unrealistic "Casualty" is!!!.... I guess a leopard can never change his spots!!!

i work in catering, but the misses place was michelin star, so everything had to be spot on.

even little things like the way the people approach our table pisses her off, shes a snob now

my mom went with her chap to the place where my misses worked and got a huge discount, (paid for a la carte instead of 7 courses).
with wine they still didnt get much change form £300.

The manager of the restaraunt i chef in once was a tad drunk with a friend. When the waitress walked over they slapped 50 quid on the table and told the waitress thats her tip, every time she does something wrong they will take a fiver off. she made a tenner in the end. Pretty harsh but i found it a giggle.

He also went into a veggie restaraunt and demanded meat.. which im all for! We have to serve veggie they should serve meat :D
