If it runs ok, just arrange a spring to hold the dipstick down - unless it is A 'n not an A+, in which case you likely do have a serious blow by problem, as it's trying to empty your sump via the dipstick!

DK, yes it's an A+ thing, they don't have a dipstick tube.

Ahh okay cheers for all ur help guys sounds like its a worn piston ring. can i just buy another set of rings and replaces thm. people are saying about.honing/boring out but i dont want to do this i just want the same as whats in there already is that possible to do?


You really won't know what is needed until you pull the engine and look at the bores. If you are lucky, you may get by with an engine "refresh". In that case, you do have to have the bores honed. However, honing is a mild abrasive preparation of the bores and will not cost much. It is a necessary step for the new rings to "bed" correctly. Without it you will likely have more blow by and higher oil consumption. Boring will only be needed if the bores are really messed up. If the block has to be bored, you are talking about a full rebuild, not a refresh as new pistons will be required.

Regardless, if you are not familiar with (or do not have the tools) for inspecting bores, take the engine block with pistons to a machine shop and have them inspect it for you. They will be able to determine what is necessary.

Even if the bores have little wear and just new rings are to be fitted it is necessary to hone the old bores to remove the 'glazing' on the walls of the bore.
It's no good just honing if the bore diameter at mid-stroke has worn a lot more than at the top and bottom of the stroke. The relative wear needs to be measured with a bore gauge and the engine re-bored with new pistons if the wear is excessive.
