After looking through the MJ manual and thinking about my install, I can see that a very low RPM setting on one of the outputs is a way of practically doing this, say 200rpm so that the pump will only work if the engine is fired. Injection vehicles have a relay that primes the fuel system when you first switch on the ignition and then cuts it off until the engine fires and then powers up the pump. The SPI and MPI minis as well as many other cars have an inertia switch that cuts the power to the fuel pump in the event of a impact, hopefully preventing fuel spraying all over the place and boom.

My only concern is whether you need to prime the fuel system to fill the carb up before it will start, especially if the car is not run frequently the fuel may have evaporated or seeped back down to the tank, you could then be cranking for ages without it starting. maybe one of the injection relays wired up to the ecu output would allow this to work.

The oil pressure switch may cause the same problem however, but as long as the car does not require priming to start then maybe they would both work fine.

Can I ask a noobie question why install a electric fuel pump?
I was going to do the swap whilst my engine is out as my thoughts are the electric is better and easily accessible for maintenance but am I better off just sticking with the mechanical?
Just a standard road set-up

the reason i'm installing an electric pump is i installed a stage one kit and i'm not happy how close the new manifold come to the fuel lines going into the mechanical pump.

easier to route the fuel lines with an electric pump.

The reason i changed over to electric is i didn't like the petrol pipes to near the exhaust, leaded petrol runs hotter
so to me it was a fire hazard

From what i can makeout the metro torbo is only a single terrminal switch.

i've been looking at alot of 2 terminal switches but none are in the correct tread pattern for the A-series engine

either that or i'm missing something in order to get them to fit.

from what i can see the tread pattern on the adapter for the oil switch and gauge is 1/8 nptf but the majority of pressures switches are 1/4 nptf.
now the only other problem i can see is all the 3 terminal switch have a warning at 8psi which is very low,(again could be wrong here)

i've found the following 3 terminal switches

ROVER
2000 (SD1) 1982-83
2300, 2600 (SD1) 1977-83
3500 V8, Vitesse (SD1) 1982-87
3500S V8 (SD1) 1976-81

Land Rover 101
