I remember when i was about 5 years old, set off in my parents Austin Countryman for our annual holiday to Wales or somewhere like that. Grandparents were in the back of the car, exhaust fell off on the motorway, pulled onto the hard shoulder to fix it, was like something out of Fawlty Towers!!!

I wasn't driving by the way!

Mine fell off on the M4 going to Reading! Sounded like a monster truck, and got a quote for £650 to fix it that day!! Luckily the rear hanger held out and I got it home sounding GLORIOUS. It fell off again not long after that after snapping again (bad engine mount). I also ripped it off the mini when I crashed it into a sign post.... and the concrete base lifted up and pulled it off.... police gave me a bit of string to tie it back on though >_<

Hi guys! After leaving a car meet the other i caught my exhaust on a small speed bump at low speeds!
At first it was alright! But was much louder! I could tell what happened! Pulled in a little way up and the whole link pipe back box and y piece was on the floor in the middle of the road!!
Luckily my mate nick was behind at the point!!
Just wondering if any of your cars has done the same!?
Also do you like the sound of it just coming out from the manifold ;)

Chris!

Its usually corrosion at the mountings or at the welds.

Happened to me in a old pug 106.
And in a mini when NOT using a proper RC40 exhaust ( And poeple still asking why to buy one..).

Humphries tyre and exhaust on Basingstoke Road, (onl stopped as it was the first one i came to) I went there before to get a new exhaust mount for the mini, and he said he had plenty in stock and to pull my car on the ramps. When I said I just want to buy the part and ill fit it myself, he said they no longer had them in stock. Fantastic customer service ;D

One of the first rallys i did i only had a short sump guard on, anyway we were pushing on and hit a cattle grid pretty hard. This loosened the y piece and got quite noisy. We pushed on and came to a real rough but tight section that was flooded for about 50 metres, as we came out of the otherside it was noticeably louder.
We got to the next control and i dived out to see if i could reattached it. My navigator shouted across "can we get it back on?", i replied ," we could if we could go back and find it!!. From the 3 branch back there was nothing!! It had come off in the flooded section and there was no way i was going in there to fish it out, not after another 30 cars had flattened it.
We carried on to the next control but were advised not to continue do to excessive noise, cant think why? lol
It was a fun drive home mind you, even went past a police car and never got stopped, mind you i did dip the clutch and virtually coast past them....

I was driving down the M4 when the car infront of me lost it's exhaust and there wasn't time to avoid it, so I aimed dead centre and hoped it would go between the wheels. Unfortunately it was too big and wedged firmly under the car and I had to pull onto the hard shoulder with an impressive trail of sparks behind me. I still couldn't budge it so ended up putting two wheels onto the embarkment to get enough clearance before burning my hands pulling it out!

Happy days, I supose looking on the bright side, at least I wasn't in my Mini which would have been totaled by the impact O_O

my original exhaust clamp broke where the exhaust links to the cast manifold.

i was going up a massive hill with 2 other mates in the car at 2AM, so the engine was already struggling.
then it appeared we'd "morphed" into a tank as it went super loud.

this was about a month after getting my mini, i thought i broken it, by putting a hole in the engine it was that loud

It wasn't in my car, it was in a friend's Honda Jazz. 5 people in the car, going up a massive hill. We thought it was a motorbike taking a long time to pass us at first, until I told my friend to pull over so we could have a look.
