Dunno, you may need an SVA, it's part of the monocoque!

did cross my mind but as it's away from the subframe mounts and bulkhead you might get away with it

It's not that far from the subframe mount, the rear offside one is less than 15cm away at a guess!

True, certainly would be within the MOT fair area if it were excessively corroded. However, it can't exactly be structural as there's no way any loads could be put though it.

Aluminium Oxidises which is just a posh word for aluminium rust, dont think it actually corrodes through to make holes though ? just makes the paint flake off..
When alu oxidises it forms a white skin that's fairly tough, in theory stopping it oxidising further. I should stress the in theory bit.
