My daughter moved last year when they got expensive. Swinton were cheaper.
http://www.msminsurance.co.uk/ were the only ones that let me add her on my kit car as a driver under 21. Could be worth a try for a classic policy.

its not just classic insurance underwriters which are in trouble. I have a Jap import car and the company I had been with for years just suddenly pulled out of that market sector. The result for me was a 150% increase in my premium as I had to go with another insurer.

Insurance premiums have increased dramatically in the last 12 months for all.

Good luck.
:-)

As much as people complain about car insurance, in my opinion, everyone that has been driving from 17 has at some point had to fork out the massive premium that is forced on first-time drivers. This is nothing new and it seems that the latest wave of new drivers think that they are the only people having to pay it. Yes it has gone up but everyone is in the same boat. Gets a bit tedious after a while when in reality, monaning about it on a forum will do nothing to aleviate prices. Yes I agree its an awful lot of money to insure a car now and that applies to everyone. But if one can't afford it then simply don't have a car.

We were talking about this the other day.

My first car cost £400 to insure, 3rd party fire and theft, that was for a 1981 1.3 Escort mk3 and was 21 years ago. i'd paid £800 for the car(it had also been a write off)

I reckon you could compare that to whats paid nowadays,

here you go then...

1st car ( I owned ) a 1969 Hillman Imp, with a slightly uprated engine... cost me 250, the insurance TPF&T was almost 400... that was in 1985/6, to put it into context, the annual insurance premium was more than one months salary at that time.

My first years insurance was 535 and has steadily increased then (agreed valuation etc has bumped it up) but now is less than 1000, 6 years on.

My friend bought an 2007 Ka for 2700, and had to pay 3400 for insurance! (he is 17)
Another bought a 2006 Fiesta for 3000 and insurance is 2500 or so. Also a 17 year old

It's crazy now for insurance, luckily I escaped it by the looks of it! I agree if you can't afford a car, don't get one, but it's still excessive in my opinion.

Having said that, Footman James sent me a renewal letter for my classic policy on the 21st and there was no mention of this policy terminating etc etc (I am under 25).
