Cant get the bloody fuel pump off!!

Its a 998 mech pump.

I've took the carb and throttle body etc all off and still cant get the rachet in there. Spanners are a no go too. Too many things are in the way in the engine!!

Anyone have a neat trick to get it out easier?

If its this hard just getting the old one off I cant wait for the new one :-|

Cheers TMF'ers

Have you removed the engine steadies so you can pull the engine foreward to give more access. ??

I used a ring spanner was a pain but got there

Nope, but is this easy?

Would you jack it up?

Engine steadies are easy enough only 2 bolts either end. Normally one top left of engine, and one bottom left.
Then you'll need a length of wood to prop between bulkhead and engine so you can wedge it foreward whilst you work on the pump.

Daft question but once the steadies are out, the engine wont fall around will it?

I can get to mine by just removing the top engine mount but i do have some very nice ring spanners which seem to be the perfect angle!

1/4" drive ratchet should fit nicely in there. Never had a problem getting to mine although I do have small hands...

massive advantage on a mini

also if your older (or have arthritis like me) , soak hands in hot water , and a quick exercise , makes them more flexible ;o)

Ratchet spanner?

Hmm, they are way too expensive to be honest. As nice as they are they just wont get used.

ChrisG10 said somethign about the engine mounts, what would you undo to gain better access? I un-did the engine steadies but that only got me like 1-2cm extra which is nothing to be honest. Any help would be greatly appreciated cheers!

By removing engine steadys yes you gain no more than 2 cm, anymore means your engine mounts are shot..
You need patience and the appropriate ratchet..

Just undo the mounts too, sometimes a bit tricky to get back on but you can move the engine loads
