an 11mm an 13mm flexi head ratchet spanner from halfords saves so much ballache, i cant do without my 13mm ratchet spanner!

Just undo both steadies, and attack it with a flexi ratchet spanner! I think theyre about 10-15 quid, but money worth spending.

So.... buy a 11mm and 15mm rachet spanner and then undo the steadies? I am right in saying that there is only one engine steady with 2 bolts arent I? As Lrostoke said earlier I undid the steady but it did nothing to the ease of getting to the pump...

By removing engine steadys yes you gain no more than 2 cm, anymore means your engine mounts are shot..
You need patience and the appropriate ratchet..

Mate I lack patience!!!!!

Just undo the mounts too, sometimes a bit tricky to get back on but you can move the engine loads

New to the engine mechanicals - where about are the mounts? To be honest I should probably refer to the Haynes bible instead of pestering everyone on here!!

Yeah, easy to take out, sometimes you need a mate to help you get them back in haha

If you get stuck I can come over next week some time?

It would have to be next year unless you were planning on coming tomorrow haha ;)

Funds at the moment look like I could have it ready by end of Jan

What im saying is, if its a 13mm nut and you cant get a ratch in, and a spanner is gonna be a pain, try a flexi head ratchet spanner of the right size ;)

Engine steadies are easy enough only 2 bolts either end. Normally one top left of engine, and one bottom left.

Think you misunderstood, there are 2 engine steadies :) attached with 2 bolts each. sounds like you didn't undo the bottom one. attached to front of subframe left side of engine.
