Im sure can just swap diffs as you must be able to because mini sport just sell a cross pin diff on its own

The cross-pin is just a diff casing with 4 off planet wheels instead of just 2. The crownwheel is transferred from the old diff.

If the shaft rotates and the pot does not, the pot joint or the end of the shaft which goes into it is bust, so there is no need for the on-going discussion about expensive things like diff internals. Just pull the shaft out and examine it.
I have given much thought to this, as I have never actually heard of a pot joint breaking, although the diagnosis seems foolproof, and strongly suspect that the splines will be sheared, and the inner member of the pot, and the end of the shaft, will both be damaged. But that is still cheaper and easier than any diff components. But hopefully there will be a picture of the broken bits coming....
