hi there guys, my car has been written off and i have been offered £1100 for the insurance money, i think my car was worth more than this before the accident.

it is a 1989 flame racing (only a thousand made) with 57.000 miles on the clock and three owners from new, it had a new front end about 6 months ago and was painted but not an amzing job (the paint is flat but polishes up ok). so there is no rust on the front or the a panels and the sills are immaculate and origional as is the floor pan which got sanded and srayed in flame red to match the car ( no rust at all just to tidy the inside up). the bottom of the doors were nearly rust free with only a small oatch of rust on the drivers door and a small bubble on esch of the rear arches. the interior is all orgional and the car is running on the steals that i refurbed my self so look tidy. it had new spark plugs and water pump at the end of november, as you can see from the pics the arch is not on but i have that on the car now it had just been removed thats all and i also have the carpets aswell. car has 8 months mot aswell, how much would you value my car then. it wasnt mint but was a good tidy example :). please be honest :D

1200 for a solid MOTed flame? I would say closer to 2K if not more. If it didn't have an agreed value with the insurers though you don't have much chance of getting it's full value. If you argue with the insurance company you could probably get another 300-400 out of them though so it's always worth a go!

i thought £1100 was pretty low like i said. it is a very solid car even my mechanic commented saying how solid it was and he wanted to buy it off me because it was so good but it wasnt for sale. i didnt agree a value with them but they have had a person come and look at the car and he said £1100 which i found insulting to be honest. i would be happier with about £1750 so like you said argue and i should get a bit more.

cheers james !!

My advice with anthing like this, even renewal quotes, is never accept the first price, you will always get a bit more out of them and sometimes a lot more!

Go to your local club and find an expert, get him/her to value it too and sign the valuation, send that to the insurance company and they will see that you have done your research and aren't just trying to 'do them over'. It might make no differemce at all but it's always worth a go.

Look at it this way, could you go and buy a mini that tidy and a limited edition for 1100? No. Tell them that!

never except the first price when my motorbike was they offered me 800 for a 08 plate bike i paid 1400 for it and told them to get a me a proper quote they rang me back with a deal 1550 and i get the bike back so just haggle with them and get the most you can and how badly is the damage

As the others have said press them for a bit more. Be careful though if you have any undeclared mods that might come to light on closer inspection. If they find any you could find yourself uninsured and completely out of pocket.

i would have said around the 1.5k mark maybe a little more. but as already said in posts above if no agreed value with the insurers then you might not get much more.

i remember my old insurance company when mini was on the road tried to tell me that as it had broken down it would be a write off due to age and condition, i told them where to go and moved insurance company.... fools!

p.s love the black steels :proud:

I would have thought between £1800 and £2200, depending on condition. It's low mileage and a limited edition. You need to get an independant valuation from an owners' club.

I would say for any good solid 80's mini like yours around £1500 - £1600
£1100 would get maybe one that is on the road but needs welding or work for the next MOT, which yours is not as it looks in good nick.
