There is an proper and well-known engineering term for the state of your car - it's 'F****d'.
Sorry, couldn't resist that.
You will need to be really assertive with your insurer. Get a valuation for your car or for similar cars to yours, support that with adverts from specialist Mini magazines, ebay and Classic car Weekly. Tell them directly what you will accept and stick with that so long as it's supported by hte research and adverts. They'll pay up in the end.

not a problem i couldnt agree more, is well and truly f****d. if u go on ebay and type in mini flame there isnt one below £2400 :S, i will print copies of advets out for flame racings and send them to the insurer, there is only 370 licensed left on the road so it is definitly worth more than £1100 and the fact it is solid has an origional ineterior floor and seals has got to be worth something even if the paint is a bit flat :/

Gutted, hate watching rare mini's being taken off of the road, especially when it's not the drivers fault, van drivers are *******, whatever you do don't settle for £1100, I'd want at least £2000 :mmkay:

Try to get a good price and then ask for the car back too, it's worth money to you in parts!

If it has to be scrapped they don't even let you have it back though? :/

Personally I would write to the insurer and enclose copies of every Mini ad for good vehicles you can find. If you can show around 20 vehicles for sale all at over £2500, then say that £2500 is the absolute minimum you'll accept, even though yours was rust free, with excellent engine and transmission and in super overall condition and probably worth well over that, they will probably pay up.
Don't waver and you'll get the true value for it. There is no reason why you should lose out, especially as it was not you at fault.

yeah i was pretty gutted, was my pirde and joy and many many hours went into it :(, i hate van drivers now with a passion, i am going to push the insurers hard to get more out of them as on ebay the cheapest one is going for £2400, yes the pait is a bit better but mine is origional and is still a very tidy and very nice car to drive :)

Such a shame, less and less mini's every year, we now know that van drivers are a help to this! This hasn't put you off mini's though has it? :)

As far as I know they don't let you touch it at all, they just take it off you and scrap it :(

i am going to spend my day tommorow printing out ads for minis's that are of similiar condition to mine so around the £2000 to £3000 mark then ones for £1100 (what they think mine is worth) and show them that for £1100 you cant get a car with an mot and one that isnt rusty as f**k

I would say for any good solid 80's mini like yours around £1500 - £1600
£1100 would get maybe one that is on the road but needs welding or work for the next MOT, which yours is not as it looks in good nick.

AND is limited edition!

Completed listings of 'limited editions'

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c2251a88f
Maybe needs a little engine work so add maybe £200

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c619e15e0
Odd little touch up needed so add £100

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3cbfd5cb24
Again needs some touching up and the odd little bit so maybe £300 - £400 ontop

All come to about £1500 with the extra spends

Yours is maybe was in a little better nick than these but these just give an idea of what it could have been worth

What a car is worth and what it would actually sell for are different things, but as its not been sold the true value is only ever going to be an estimate

All i can say is aim as high as you can
