800? How , aclassic mini ? Who with ha , i want a mini one really

Insurance will always be alot for a young driver on a new mini, mainly as its got a 1.6 engine, and I imagine also due to it being a desirable car, hence more likely to be stolen.

Bear in mind that pretty much everyone in this thread, when they say mini, is talking about a classic mni, with either a 998 or 1275 engine, and a much lower insurance group. Most of the 998s are group 2 or something aren't they?
Whereas the new Mini is 5 apparently, (thought it was higher than that).

So, basically, don't expect a miracle, chances are you will be paying more than £1k as a minimum.

You may find a real mini is cheaper to insure.

It could be where you live rather than what car it is. If it's a higher crime area then the insurance will be priced accordingly. The people getting better prices might be on private estates and have secure garages for all we know!

Surprisingly it's with the RAC. On my policy I'm stated as 'a student living away' which is kinda true as I'm at college miles away and stay up there a few nights a week. That's what made the difference, couldn't believe my eyes when I got the quote- the next cheapest was closer to 3 grand like you said :/ it's a 1275 with a ton of mods so I'm pretty lucky to be honest. More advice is to always phone up and talk to them, you'll always get a cheaper quote if you phone up. Good luck with it!

Ur best off buying an old mini, iv had a few of my mates what have have no ncb and got insured for about £1000 without looking on classic insurance. At the price u could get a decent mini and get insured for the prices uv said just on insuring a new 1, just a thort

You could get insured on a classic mini for less than 1000, so if you spent your car budget + insurance savings you could get a really nice classic mini. Have a look in the classifieds on here, eBay, Pistonheads etc. and see if you find anything you fancy.
