Yes, the extra fuel will wash the oil from the bores and will cause a build-up of black carbon deposits on the piston tops.
Mixture should be correct, as should timing, then the car will run properly. Why would anyone should want their road car to pop & bang, causing anyone who knows about engines to say 'There's a car not set up properly'? Strange really.
