Top tracker works out at only 49p a day, now to me that is worth it to know if your mini goes off without you you can get him/her back.

You can even pickup a cheap pay as you go mobile and hide it in the car, that way you can get tracking software and find it yourself aswell.

DO IT AND STOP THEM TAKING OUR MINIS

What would also help if the forums MODERATORS would listen to me and make this Forum private, like pretty much every other damn classic car forum.

Private so only people who register to this forum can see the posts. So free members and paid memebers can see the forum.

Just more hassle for them to look for our minis

Plus maybe like every other site, Ask for more information on the person signing up. Information that doesnt get shared with everyone but somewhat of a security thing....

Certain things should be made private, but without all the open stuff people wouldnt be attracted here. I have followed links to forums where you cant view anything until you sign up and i normally leave and don't come back if thats the case. But things like location should be made private unless the person actively posts it.

If they made the forum private, I hope there is a way to be able to set your own post non-private if you want, I like showing non tmf-ers to my project thread D:

i used this forum quite abit for infomation and help before i joined and i think alot of other people do. if people want infomation about the cars and posts they would just join anyway its hardly much bother. i cant see how mking the forum private would help.

Hankins, I've edited the title and also some of your post, though we're a little more open to people acting as adults now, people adding a * into a swearword like you have done just aint needed, it's still clear what you are saying in there anyway. The odd mild bit of swearing is being more accepted, but there's no need for some of it.

So, back on subject:

Trackers, yeah good idea.

Good idea about making TMF private too, so that only 30,000+ people can see the details. MODERATORS wouldn't be able to change those settings anway, it would have to be ADMIN, seeing as we're looking for someone to blame. If people wanted to sign up then they could anyway, so if they're going to look on a forum to enable them to steal a car, but signing up to the forum is the only hold up, then they'll sign up and still carry on stalking people on t'internet so they can steal their cars.

If people don't like their information being seen publically (like location and car registration) then don't post it on a public forum. It's quite simple really.

There are private areas on TMF (like TMF+) that only signed up members can see.

The thing people have got to be careful about is, who is following them home. I always check to see if I am being followed by a certain vehicle who will still be there after I have gone around in a circle around my area. Perhaps I'm paranoid but then I work for the police and have an idea how these peole work!

So I don't think a private forum will make much difference. Thieves will usually target vehicles where they are at the time. I'm not suggesting for a moment that travellers are involved but I'm not suggesting their not either.
As I say, just be careful, especially if going to a lockup which is away from busy areas.

i live in a residential area but have CCTV covering my garden just in case.

All the best stuff

I've thought about a tracker. Are there certain types that can be blocked and those that can't? I'd imagine that for a lot of the stolen 'special' cars like Minis, the thief may use some sort of tracker signal blocker by default.

Agree....A private forum isnt going to stop people they'l just sign up. We're sorting out an alarm for the garage and our house has a Lexcom system which Ive been told I can run a camera from

Shame we have to take such measures..... considering the tracker option but ours arnt in daily use so not sure if the expense is worth it for us

CCTV with 4 cameras was £100 from Maplins, when I got mine a couple of years ago. Can be linked to tv or PC/Laptop. in colour and 24hr recording to a hard drive. Night picture not 100% but good enough for where I live.
Some systems I believe can be linked to security lights to improve visibility at night.

1 other point to note is, to be aware of strangers appearing at your lock up, pretending to be looking for a place or person. They can be thieves checking out what you've got. I always record the reg numbers of strange vehicles that appear in the street. If its a plain van (not a delivery van) or a car with several males in it then I report the numbers to the police. Even if they don't intercept them, its recorded for intelligence and useful if something were to happen soon after. Not that it has but when I'm working on my cars there may be someone driving past who looks a has more than a passing look at what I'm doing.
I'm sure members will know what I mean.

Lets be careful out there and stop these persons before you never see your car again. Security must start with yourself first before you blame others.
