CCTV with 4 cameras was £100 from Maplins, when I got mine a couple of years ago. Can be linked to tv or PC/Laptop. in colour and 24hr recording to a hard drive. Night picture not 100% but good enough for where I live.
Some systems I believe can be linked to security lights to improve visibility at night.

1 other point to note is, to be aware of strangers appearing at your lock up, pretending to be looking for a place or person. They can be thieves checking out what you've got. I always record the reg numbers of strange vehicles that appear in the street. If its a plain van (not a delivery van) or a car with several males in it then I report the numbers to the police. Even if they don't intercept them, its recorded for intelligence and useful if something were to happen soon after. Not that it has but when I'm working on my cars there may be someone driving past who looks a has more than a passing look at what I'm doing.
I'm sure members will know what I mean.

Lets be careful out there and stop these persons before you never see your car again. Security must start with yourself first before you blame others.

ummmmm paranoid........ i'll say not everyone in the world is a bad guy and reporting numbers to the police everytime you see a plain van or several males in a car is a waste of police time and Tax payers money, think if everyone thought like you? 99.9% of the police force would have to be Admin.

this is not Hollywood. People dont follow you home. Maybe it has happend a few times but think how many journeys people make in there minis and the number of times they have been followed. i bet its less than 0.0000001%.

If people start watching behind them for bad guys, they are just going to get paranoid just like you, next thing you know they will start trying to get away from the non existent followers and end up having a crash, and bobs your uncle just lost the mini you were trying to save. i'm sure thats a much more likley scenario.

to much fear spreaders in todays society.

P.S minimarvel dont take this personally its not a pop at you. i just feel vey strongly about things like this.

We talked about the idea of using a mobile phone as a tracker before and it just ins't practical. You'd have to leave it in your car powered up all the time. It'll drain the battery very quickly. Proper trackers draw very little power when they are asleep. Also you have to make a minimum number of calls on a PAYG phone to keep it active. If you hide it in the car and ignore it they will deactive the SIM. If you hide it anywhere that it's easy to get to so you can dial out every now and then it will be too easy for a thief to find and switch off or chuck away. And mobiles are not very powerful transmitters, it's easy to block them. Drive the car into a container or a metal garage or even a tunnel or underground car park and the phone would be useless. Trackers are much more powerful, they can transmit through quite a lot of stuff and the Police have the receiver in their car. Once it's switched on any Police car can follow it and if they happen to drive near a car park and pickup even a trace of a tracker signal on the way past they will drive in and find the car. It's much better than relying on the mobile phone network.

I agree to a point....the big factor with the mini though is that they are one of the easiest cars to break into sooooooo alarms, trackers ect do have a use

Its being sensible not paranoid

I dont watch my rearview mirror to see if I'm being followed except by the police :proud:

Hankins, I've edited the title and also some of your post, though we're a little more open to people acting as adults now, people adding a * into a swearword like you have done just aint needed, it's still clear what you are saying in there anyway. The odd mild bit of swearing is being more accepted, but there's no need for some of it.

Sorry was feeling a little wound-up at the time of posting. Thank you for the cleanup

Been doing a little research and have ordered a multi-band tracker. Also most of you know mini locks aren't the hardest to open, but have found this little beast that i may order from the USA to have a look at :)

Do any of those Insurance & Polizia approved trackers lower your insurance premiums too?

Am putting serious thought to these for my 'tilda & Tommy.

*sigh*

If the forum was private and people signed up to this forum they leave a trace and IP etc.

When your a thief your paranoia is hightened.

Also does the admin ever do clean ups of profiles?

Many of other websites do clean ups of unactive profiles that dont post or anything. Contact the owner via email and pm if no reply they remove them.

Im not blaming the moderators or admin, its just a little something that could help. It may not seem it to you but it will help.
