It's a lovely looking Mini but it's never, ever worth £25k and I'm at a loss as to explain why someone would spend that. I'd be interested to know how many WP sold - if any...

You can get new mpi engines.

Really???.. Where from?

Minispares list heads and half engines as available. I've already bought the head, and assuming they actually have the engines, I'll pick one of those up soon too :)

Can't you buy a new one off Wood and Pickett for something like £25,000?

EDIT:£26,000 O_O http://www.woodandpi...rs-for-sale/17/

Wow, I love the dials on that! I'm not so taken by the leather surround, or the £26k either for that matter!

Don't forget - if you build one from scratch you'd have to worry about registering it. Am I right it saying it would have to sit on a 'Q' plate?

On that note, is it still a 'Q' plate, if it was built after September 2001? Is there a new style 'Q' plate?

surely if its a 'new car' it has to comply with 2012 safety regs and the mini was struggling in the 90s with this so theres no way it would pass now?

There is definitely one registered on an 07 plate. I think the rules for it say you can't have more than 2 used components for it to get a current registration. The one in 07 was a very expensive build, new everything. He had a number of safety features which got through the tests at the time. I can imagine they are bit harder now though.

I wouldn't spend that on one. But I would like one of the older W&P Minis that used to come free with a Rolls Royce.

You can have just the dash done to an existing car. I did enquire once and they were not cheap though.

I wouldn't mind the clocks but that's about it, not too keen on the leather bit that sticks out haha

How much are we talking? Would they cover it in other material?

I wonder if they would sell you just the plans for a reasonable fee.

It is a lot of money, but then it is a brand new classic Mini. How else could you get one brand new these days?

What I'm wondering is how W&P get around all the safety and emission laws? Rover said the MPi design would last until 2003 at best.

If you have any old MiniWorld mags, look for one with a blue mini and yellow cage as the cover car. I can't remember exactly which one, but I think it must have been 2009/early 2010. That's an 07 plate, and he included a number of features in that to meet modern standards. It had a non-A series as well - it was a bike engine I believe.

If you build a new one, you will need to pass IVA, which is not possible without a lot of expensive modifications to the shell and interior. For a start, it fails on the radii of the seam covers and gutters. Likewise the Mokes which are available new and just need an engine and transmission, and have no hope of passing IVA.

Sad really, because the Mokes, if the build quality is acceptable, are remarkably cheap.

At launch W&P had about 5 orders but not sure if they all completed their purchase.......most were from overseas buyers and they will often end up in private car collections.
Remember the British Automobile Company M-30 Mini, of which only three were produced in 1989 to celebrate the Mini's 30th birthday. One BAC M-30 was notably owned by Bernie Ecclestone and auctioned in 2007.

Then again plenty of new car buyers spend that amount and more on new small performance cars:

New MINI Cooper JCW
Price Range: £23,305 - £24,780 + options

MINI John Cooper Works Championship 50
Price: £33,000

and the Audi A1 Quattro
is over £34,000+ but then it has got 256hp and 4wd!

At least, though Heritage do offer various complete shells.

Then there's David Brown who were building short runs of complete Minis, from memory, these were around or over 100K GBP

And apparently, there was a huge waiting list.
