The only wire that has been near the coil is the black one off the module. I don't get why it worked and then all of a sudden stopped. The rev gauge seemed to bounce a little a few seconds before the engine cut out.

Take Dan's advice and refit the points dizzy (correctly adjusted). If that works, the problem is in the Lumenition unit or how you wired it.

If you want troubleshooting help with various aspects of the ignition system, download the PDF I posted a link to earlier.

Thanks for the help. I will fit the old points and condenser back on tonight and post up again. Hopefully the car will be running and I won;t have messed up anything else.

Got the car running on the original points and condensor so that means that the electronic igntion is nackered as I know ive got the wiring correct.

Cheers for the help people, you have all been great ;D Shame about the electronic igntion though. Can I use one off a 998cc metro?

I can only speculate that you should be able to move the electronics from one distributor to another. (No Metros and very few A+ engines over here). A 998 Metro engine shouldn't have any different spark requirements than a 1275 so it should be a question of "does it fit" more than is it suitable... and it should fit.
