I had somehow overlooked the 1098 engine. Apart from the Mini Special, of which only 5100 were built, there was a Clubman 1100 from 1975 and a standard shaped Mini 1100 made in Belgium from 1977.

There were two other A-series engine sizes that were never fitted to a Mini:
the original 803, 58 bore, 76.3 stroke first installed in the Austin A30 in 1951 and
the 948, 62.99 bore, 76.3 stroke in the Austin A35 and Morris Minor in 1956

The 948 also went in the A-H Sprite. It had 47 bhp in standard form and with the Sprite weighing less than even a Mini it was quite a 'nippy' little car in its day. I've even rallied in a 1959 Sprite,

Yes my Dads A-H Sprite should have a 948 engine in instead of the 1380 haha.
The spridgets later had a 998 or a 1098.
Our Morris Minor 1955 Split screen convertible has the 803cc engine in.
This later changed to the Minor 1000

Probably got about 5 spare a-series engines in the lock-up aswell as a b series spare

Lot of facts and figures here for the A series, although not all made it into the mini

I built an 1115 cc engine for a Mk.1 Sprite for historic motor sport. It had a 1275 engine, but that made it ineligible for some events as 1275 did not represent a 'period modification'. My old friend JohnSprinzel did build two Mk.1 'Speedwell' Sprites with the 1098 block, so that made it original. With a 276 cam, 295 head, twin H4 carbs, 10.2:1 C.R. and a better exhaust system, plus some other little tweeks, it gave 75 bhp at 5900 rpm at the flywheel.
