Sorry, progress has been a bit slow of late due to an unexpected snag; we lost our yard where we store the race mini's and truck, so have spend a lot of time moving parts to various homes.

We have just about finished reassembling the painted front subframe, with all new bushes, bearings etc, and attention has now turned to the truly horrible job of finishing stripping off the underside of waxoil and underseal. A hot air gun, scraper, gun wash, and a wire brush on a drill have proved the winning solution, but it's horrible smelly dirty work. Poor cameraphone picture below by way of evidence of work!

On a positive note, we haven't found any more welding work.

Then the last of the grimey jobs will be to degunk the rear subframe which is well covered in more waxoil and filth.

Colour choice still changing weekly; it's a brave (wo)man who stakes a pound on what colour it might get painted!

Mmmmmmmm underseal, nice job, remember it well. Scraper and petrol did mine but lots of methods. As for slow, you seem to be doing just fine to me.

Hard to believe how time flies when you're doing anything but working on the mini!

Moving out of the yard where we store the race car and truck took a while, but we hit a major milestone today in loading the shell up and taking it off for welding on the new panels.

I've got a couple of photo's on the 'phone but it's not playing ball.

Meantine the front subframe is assembled and ready, and the rear is painted so just the arms to refurbish.

I'll post some pictures up when the technology allows!

Thanks for all the positive comments. Can't wait to get cracking on this little project, just one other car to finish and MOT first.

Bear with us for a few weeks before the 'photos start.

And yes, every youngster should be taught the basics of how a car works. Frightening how many can't change a wheel of check the oil!

Mike

thanks, and good luck with the learning to drive.

My lad can drive (he raced oval circuit for a couple of years so knows how to crash 'em!).

Hi Mike,

How the progress on the car?

Bobby

Hi Bobby. Spent an age stripping off the waxoyl but it's all stripped now and gone off to my mate who is going to weld on the new front wings, front, under scuttles and scuttle panel, rear boot floor and valence, to name but a few bits.

It's in a queue behind his Hornet with no floor, and 2 race cars that need a rear subframe and engine reshell, but there is no particular rush as next job is painting and that will keep until the weather turns.

cheers

Mike
