Anyone see the episode where Ray met Les? (in Arnhem land from memory). Les didn't half look old - you don't realise how old his programmes are until something like that puts it into perspective.

Actually they were together on TV the night before last. Ray Mears Goes Walkabout.

I would rather have the boring one who will survive rather than the showman who seems to need a hotel.

Bear is entertaining and some of the stuff he has rammed in his chops has made me squirm whereas Ray may not be a ball of fire but he can make a lot of stuff from virtually nothing that works well.

And why throw yourself out of a perfectly serviceable plane or helicopter  That's not surviving, just plain daft :D

I was going to say I am pretty sure Ray does do army training. They have to be taught by someone.

iBooks makes some good points about taking risks

And I would actually want a guy called Ranulph Fiennes (spelling?) with me. He's ex SAS I believe, and somewhat of an explorer - often going by himself to some pretty inhospitable places.

And he will help you to chop off the end of your frost bitten fingers. Tough man that Mr Fiennes.

Ray Mears does 'advise' some elements of the Forces.

Bear Grylls shows what do to SHOULD you end up in those situations. I am very sure that should he be in a survival situation then he wouldn't take half of those risks unless they are put upon him.

He does alright for someone that smashed his back in then told he'd never walk again but 18 months or so later was the youngest Brit (at the time) to scale Everest.

The hotel thing was apparently only in the 1st season of 'Born Survivor/Man Vs Wild'.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes had a brief spell in the Hereford lot but a disagreement with a damn ended that one. Read a few books by/about him, what a legend.

It would have to be Ray Mears, I can't stand Bear Grylls, however good at surviving in inhospitable circumstances, Mears would edge it on his cool headed approach

Bear Grylls really is a boy scout - it wasn't an insult.

Mears is more than a survivalist, that's just how we got to hear about him.

I wouldnt want Mears with me....

apart from being littlme more that an enthusiast compared to the other two (who have both been in the SAS), I'd be concened at waking up to chubby Mears trying to eat me.

Bear wasn't a full-time SAS soldier, mind. He was in the T.A. At least that's what I've read. wireless control

So if Bear was SAS and Mears teaches them some stuff, surely Mears taught the Bear? The student becomes the master.

I have been told some cracking stories about Raymundo reference his 'advising' days to those who shall not be named.

Granted he did TA selection it wouldn't have been a walk in the park, certainly a walk around Brecon though.

Full or part time the course is no doubt a lick out!
