Made some good progress at the weekend!
Finished making the side plates and got them bang on!!! If there is any difference in mounting height it is seriously small, under 0.5mm. Really relived as it was 3rd time lucky.

Made up the bottom legs, although I chose to do them differently. Used 38mm certified CDS for the legs and put the plates on at an angle. Thought it looked quite neat when it was onto the car.
Also got the hole in the bulkhead welded up nice and solidly!

Hanging back a bit for parts as im going to pop down to MITP and see if I can get some better prices there.

Cage should be arriving tomorrow!

Need to start the boring bit now and paint/protect the underside

Wasn't much progress up until last week. Been working away down London etc.

Went to MITP and got some spacers and suspension ordered from Geoff at Watsons, got a good deal there :). Just got to wait for it to arrive :(

Also picked up a 2 piece clubby front from arc angels

Posted Image

Had some time early in the week so we had a look what the front looks like on the car. Subframe sticks out quite a bit. Not sure what to do with regards to this
Posted Image

Then me and my dad had an hour and half at putting the cage in loosely until we can drill it out. Looks bloody awesome :D very impressed with safety devices.
Wasn't supplied with instructions but wasn't needed. Everything lines up bang on

You need to modify the front cross member matey. Bring it right in and higher up, makes it look tidier

I borrowed this but you get the idea

Ohhhh nice. R65 or PG1? Looks a tidy shell too

Undecided yet to be honest, having a good weigh up of the pros and cons

Very tidy shell! came with reskinned doors too and all the panels to finish. Just needs some untidy welding sorting and some unfinished welding

R65s are made of cheese, and would struggle to cope with 200 bhp. Id personally go for the pg1 box. Pg1 boxes feel a lot more precise than the r65s too, in my opinion.

Had a really good week on ebay and the owners clubs this week :D Managed to get a few bits and pieces.

Got a metro column, wheel and stalks for the costly sum of 99p felt a right tight arse picking it up
Posted Image

Next I picked up some brand new rover upper arms for £20, which i found a bargain and not worth refurbing the old ones
Posted Image

And got myself some alloys to at least get the mini rolling and maybe refurb at a later date. Again happy as got them for £21 :D
Posted Image

Finally the Watsons stuff arrived, spring conversion kit and spacers. Got a good price and although there was a slight delay due to Geoff moving I was very happy. Also chucked in the metro frame engine mount FOC :D

Well a week of up and down.
Sorted a 1.4 out but bloke sold it before I could pick it up
Went to look at a second 1.4 and was a right pile of ****! Been stood full of water outside so no thanks!

Then something kinda unexpected happened. Someone I know had a mgzr they were breaking. Rear end shunted 2003 mgzr with 41274 on the clock with the 160vvc in it :)

So I pretty much got everything I need!
  • 160bhp vvc engine
  • Pg1 box
  • Loom
  • Ecu
  • Immobo box and keyfob
  • All ancillaries
  • Gear selector
  • Engine stabiliser

Got a few pictures, got the engine out of the van, stripped inlet off just to ease it up a bit.

Removed power steering pump, heat shield and aircon compressor as not needed.
Wanted to fit it in but got incorrect mounts :(

Fitted rear subframe on to get it out of way and put Watsons spacers on. Was going to fit alloys but realised I have no wheel nuts :(

Few pics
