Diffs breaking is common on mpi's, usually around 40k.

I've had no big problems yet. I have found mine reliable. "touch wood"
Had an overheating problem which was tricky to work out he's fine now, other than that general wear and tear parts. I have problem with a bit of rain water coming in around the door seals when it rains heavy (no so good at the moment!), even after replacing the seals, which is annoying. I think its where the lower seal meets the upper seal.

If you're refering to red_mini_mmm, he did actually say "2000 Mini Cooper", so MPI.

Thanks for all the help so far its greatfully received.
Does the road salt really impact on the wiring so much?
The leaking windows or doors would ruin me as it would be a daily drive, without a garage.
Just dont want to sell my reliable little fiesta and regret it.
I do love the thought of a daily mini and so does the missis.
Heart or head???

I've had my 2000 mpi for nearly five years now. bought it with 7k miles on the clock and now it's done 42k, has never let me down !
Use it nearly every day to get to work, only 9 miles each way but also long journeys to shows & went to Nurburgring in 2009 :D
Only trouble i've had other than usual wear & tear items was a starting problem with battery going flat overnight winter 2010 which just turned out to be a wire rubbed through behind the ecu.
Had the usual rust on front panel wings & panels but had them replaced last year.

Is yours garaged or out in the conditions?Cheers :)

I bought my 500 new, and it's been my daily drive since then.
It needed a new master and slave cylinder within months, since then that's been fine.
The bodywork is resembling a colander, this will be a gradual repair as it can only go off the road when I don't need it.
There have been problems for years with the electrics, horn stopped working for whatever reason, the only way they could get it to work ended up with the srs light on permanently. The clock won't keep time - more irritating than I ever imagined it could be!
Been through so many batteries I can't remember!
Coolant problems led to head gasket going a couple times. Bad bodywork done by garages...

The list goes on

So, who wants to buy it

No never had any water leaks, standing in about two foot of snow the last winter for two weeks finished off the front & rear valance, but was planning on doing the bodywork last year anyway.
Had them check the usual rust problem on the scuttle panel while they had the screen out but it was good as new.
I check under the carpets now & again but no damp at all.
I put a couple of those moisture trap/dehumidifiers inside over winter, keeps it from getting damp.

Mine lives on the road too. I honestly wish i'd never chopped in my ritz for this one, but i'd never be without a mini!
It's just part of who I am now :-)

What mileage has yours done now ?

I was lucky buying mine from an 84 year old lady who had it from new so the first seven years of its life it never went out in the rain & had only done 7000 miles when i bought it.

Just over 80k.

The first weekend I had it some little arsewipe took the badges off it with a screwdriver. To get a courtesy car it had to go to a garage that my insurance company specified. They crashed it, didn't tell me, ever since it's leaked. I'm finally in a position where it can go off the road for 6 weeks and I have transport and a wee bit of cash to get the worst sorted! I just need to find someone who is good at bodywork and won't rip me off... This may be difficult as I don't trust garages one tiny bit.
