If you're using the Optimise Auto liner and a 10" sub, you could try this instead:

I like that, clean set up and still room to store stuff.

You do have to relocate the washer bottle (rear bin is a handy home) but with some careful positioning and a healthy handful of lambs wool you can get about 21-22L.

Test fitting is important to make sure the sub is high enough (mine really could do with being 15m higher) to clear the wheel arch, being too close can make for a ballache getting it in and out.

Of course, you could try and do anything that needs doing behind it first, to avoid keep taking it out... Something I should have done :D

I actually used this to my advantage. The Magnet of my sub is by design sitting on the wheel arch (well will Fibreglass, Sound Deadening and a think bit of leather under it) and so it braced HARD.
It allows that hard kick to pass directly in to the shell, The panels do not rattle or buzz due to the extensive Sound Deadening the whole car has. It allows a small 10" to really pound in the car!

Sounds the same as mine is now then, I knew I did it right.... :gimme:

My sub has a rubber, erm, thing around the cage which rests on the wheel arch dampening material providing some shock absorbtion (completely by fluke as I say).

"a fairly reasonably priced sub?"
It's all relative, to some 'reasonably priced' is 15 grand to others is a tenner... Without a ball park figure it's hard to recomend. :D

Also are you saying that you head unit only has a single RCA preout and that is for subwoofer only, and other than that it's just speaker level outputs?

Cheers

It's got a single RCA, and it's labelled sub-woofer, but I think it's full range as it worked OK hooked up to the channel with the comps on.

I'm thinking ~£150 or so, but I'm well aware you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the help :D

Did you confirm that the RCA does have a full range output?

OH and some amazing subs all under your budget.

All are dual 4ohm Voice coils so you can Wire them in Parallel like this.

And your amp should give you 400 watts rms! :D

Might be worth running a higher rated fuse with this setup..

Or a bit less SPL and more SQ.

I've got a 90A fuse in there, if I start blowing that I shall start to worry for my battery!

I've checked, and the RCA output from my HU is full range, yes. The worry I had with the optimise enclosure is that it wouldn't seal properly, hence the MDF box I made. The volume I ended up with was 21.2l, the JBL sub I ordered calls for a 21.4l enclosure, which is pretty good going by my standards.

I'm going to keep looking for a better sub, the JBL one didn't cost me very much as I'd sent some speakers back that had broken.

I've not had any problems with the strength of seal on my set up (still running the sub in, mind you), I did worry at first I'd open the boot and find it laying in the middle, having popped out.

Currently it stays in place by virtue of super tight fit, should it start shifting once the sub is run in then I'll pop a couple of screws in the sides but there's no perceivable air loss currently.

Of course if you're building for competition standard then it's a different story, I'd imagine.

Me and competition standard don't really get on, I only have a £500 amp because I was given it!

It was going to get a £20 eBay special JBL one

Haha! Know what you mean, but a good sounding, balanced system doesn't mean spending a fortune!
Like most things, it's all in the preparation (and getting Ruckus to pick the parts :P)

You can see some of the prep work I did here;

Liking the flashing tape, might steal that idea. Weight's weight as far as I'm concerned!

Your pods reminded me to ask about mine, mine have no bottom and are bolted tightly to the carpet to provide a porous back, is that OK Ruckus? My comps are designed for free air.

Feel free, I wasn't the first by a long shot! ;D

I might have gone a little overboard with it but an added bonus is now when you shut the doors, they go 'thunk' not 'twang' !

One sub box carpeted :D

I'm thinking with the boot lid to deaden, stuff with fibreglass and stick a sheet of carpeted fibreboard over the top.

Are you sure that's only 21 litres ?? It looks huge.
