I'm supposed to be cycling from Cambridge to London in a couple of weeks too.........it's been nice knowing you all!!

I did 75 miles a couple of years ago for one of the big charities round here: Ashford - Canterbury - Margate - Ashford again in a big loop.

You at the end you feel tired but think, wow, that's not so bad then get off the bike and your legs just give way!haha I was told to take a quick ice bath afterwards then a long hot one after that and it seemed to do the trick. I only really ached for about 3 days, same as if you do a big gym session

Garmin yea but iPod nooooo don't be an iPod jogger!

As well as the nhs program, look up the Run England site if you'd like to find a beginners or imrpovers group. I run a couple here and have 100% success with getting people to a 5k in 10-12 weeks.

We get plenty of people from Melton Mowbray come to our club :D

Back to the school games today, athletics yay, children boo!

I know everyone has different abilities, but unless someone is quite large or has a serious problem/injury it shouldn't take anywhere near 10 weeks for someone to be able to rub 5k. Once you are used to the running, it's just mind over body and a bit of will power and determination. I am by no means fit at all at the moment either.

I have seen some big lads shift it when they need to. You really wouldn't think they could to look at them tho.

Quite true, many achieve it quicker, and run it with a faster pace. But of the hundreds I've worked with, there are an awful lot who need the couple of months to get there. Regardless if it's physical or psychological, it's still developing the skills to do it.

Super unfit. Went out for a twenty minute run the other day and nearly died. Bearing in mind I used to go out for 15 miles happily that wasn't a great realisation. Now on a mission to get army fit for main board!

*holds hand up*

I went from training 7 times a week swimming competitively, to rowing 3 times a week ... to nothing! :errr:

I've been waaaaay too lazy and been working far too much to have a routine and even think about it! >_<

However, as of 3 weeks ago, I'm back in the pool 2 times a week - Doing a mile at a time!

Good luck everyone!

I did Milton Keynes to London Paddington via the grand union Canal Tow path last year. That was about 100 miles or so, along a rather bumpy uneven track, & on a mountain bike with no suspension...... & I've never felt pain like it!!

So I'm keen on giving the ice bath thing a go this time if it will help, but how cold are we talking exactly and how long to I have to stay in it for?? (Bare in mind that I will be staying in a Travel Lodge afterwards, so will just a cold bath do, or will I actually need a whole load of ice cubes to make it worth doing??)

I'm no expert, I just gave it a go. I just only turned on the cold tap so not actually that cold but it bloody felt it haha. I stayed in it for about 5 minutes before I bailed and ran a hot bath. You can probably find out how to do it properly on google or something

I just saw this on the BBC site, not the most scientific but gives you an idea: http://news.bbc.co.u...ess/4286038.stm

ive had ice baths and just gone for freezing cold water as opposed to putting ice in it.

once youve been in there about 3 minutes you wont notice the cold.

it definately stops DOMS in my experience. im normally in there for 15-20mins.

Lol I'm totally unfit! Haven't done sport since school!
And I'm 26 next Sunday
We decided to get the kids into kickboxing and it's something I always wanted to do but being mega unfit never bothered! I'm starting on Wednesday my aim is once I get somewhere physically fit and flexible to be an able kickboxer to start learning mma.
The instructors seem
To think they will have me fit in weeks! I hope so because the metabolism has kinda slowed down the last few years lol and beig a lorry driver doesn't help that either.
Looking forward to my first ass whooping on Wednesday.
Best bit is adult classes are 14 upwards
So looks like I
Gettin a kick in from someone 12 years younger lol
