Just read your OP again, if the water pump impeller fails it can cause a noise but its more of a grinding noise increasing with the engine revs.
good idea - slacken the fan belt - then remove it - & try engine again
Sounds like a plan to me

no oil pressure gauge i am afraidoil pressure may tell you if you have a gauge
do a oil change - or just inspect it (look for silver bits & metal particles) & refill

not that i noticed. i have also had the rocker cover off and all looks in order with the vlalves, valve seats, springs and rockersthere wasnt a bang wen it first happend was there?? smashed valve bouncin on piston mabye?? easy to check if take plugs out and have peak inside the bores.

so hopefully not ends - maybe blowing manifold ?
