i see midland wheels have a 6" rose petal

apparantly made in the FAR EAST

bit worrying and any hassles fitting or taking off ( ruining wheels , tyres )

heard mixed stories about midland and also customer sevice

tyres are a 165 A048r

maybe should go with the 5.5 ultralites instead

any help

These wheels were originally manufactured by John Cooper Garages & were fitted to the Works racers as well as most other successful racers in the mid 1960's. They were a copy of the wheels made for the Cooper Grand Prix cars.

At one time they were THE ONLY alloy wheel available for a Mini. Minilite wheels were later by a few months in December 1963 and were copied/ based on the Rose Petal design.

Original Rose petals wheels are much sought after. Reproductions from Vortz and Minispares were more expensive but Midland Wheels recently reproduced them at a lower price in 10 & 12" and many say the quality is quite good.

I'm not sure if getting 6" wheels from MWS is a good idea... maybe they've redesigned their wheels since i've dealt with them but I wasen't able to find anybody that could mount tires on to them.

p.s. recently went to a local British car meet. and five out of ten mk1 mk2 coopers had rose petals on. One guy explained to me the reason there are no center caps is because they don't want anything to fall off on to the track. So I guess that says something about it's racing heritage.

p.p.s

here's a lovely van with rose petals

To be quite honest, I hate the 5.5 ultralights with a passion... but what do I know?

I think rose petals would suit your car with it being a racing style mini and because that's what the racing coopers used

I bought a set of 5" minilites from Midland Wheels and had great service...I went over there, ordered the wheels and then they mounted the tyres and balanced them for free :)

They also threw in a free set of locking wheel nuts..had the wheels on for a couple of months now and still look like new, no problems with quality for me :) I would highly recommend them

I also had appaling service from them. Ordered tyres over the phone when on offer. I got an order number and agreed to pick up at a show a week later to save the postage. I didn't pay (but asked and was told there was no need I could pay on collection). When I got to the show he tried to charge me 20 quid more as they 'had gone up since'. I showed him the email with price and order number and he shrugged his shoulders and wouldn't budge on price. I won't use them again.
