Hi,

i checked the swith and thats fine.

followed the link to that thread and my fuel pump is working fine. i also disconnected the fuel pipe to try it and i am getting fuel through the pipe which means it should be going through to the carb?

any more ideas?

Thanks

Right so in your original post you said

...................My mini turns over but doesn’t seem to fire, there’s just no kick in getting it to start. I have connected some jump leads to it and another car and its starts straight away, I thought then it may be the battery but I have tested that and the reading is around 12. Once I disconnect it from the jump start its fine, I then turn it off and start it up normally and its fine again, however if I leave it for a few hours it doesn’t start again!!!!

This would indicate an electrical issue, that's why everyone suggested checking earth and battery

Then you said

Last night me and my dad took off the air filter and looked into the carb and put some fuel in, it started first time, we looked at the fuel evaporating when running and it starts to vaporise then stops???

which is why I suggested checking fuelling. The one thing thats puzzling me is whether you needed to still ' Jump start' the car yesterday when you poured fuel straight into the injector. (By the way I'm sure I've read somewhere this is not a good idea, but I can't find the post )

So the question is will the car start at all without 'Jump Starting' from another battery ???

hi there,

my mini wont start without jump starting it from cold. when we pour fuel into it, it starts straight away without jump starting it. however if we dont put the fuel in and keep trying it the battery dies, only after about 8 turns of the key?

the only way of starting it seems to be jump starting it without pouring fuel in or starting it by pouring a little bit of fuel into the carb. (no jump start)

hope this makes sense.

thanks

Let me ask some more questions to make the problem a bit clearer -

Does it start normal if the engine is at temperature or warm (88 Degs)?

Is the problem only when the engine is cold?

If you put fuel into the inlet manifold when the engine is cold does it start and keep running? or does it stop after a time?

The only way to start it from cold normally is by connecting another battery - correct?

And then if you disconnect this extra battery it keeps running with no problems? Can you actually drive it normally after you have it started? or does it just idle?

Hey I ended up managing to get my mini started and not sure how much this might help in your situation.
Fault was just not starting and adding the fuel to butterfly seemed to get its running until the fuel ran out.

I removed one spark plug and tried to start the car. Was checking for spark but didn’t expect it to kick in straight away but it did. Repeated this for every spark plug and car starts everytime. Although fault came back pretty quick. I checked the battery and seems to be ok however under load the battery dropped to below 10volts. Turns out the 3pin connector at alternator and wiring down to the starter was not it great condition. Fingers crossed fixing this has now resolved the issue.

Worth a check
