Why? Well the standards to which a road must be maintained is linked to the allow speed on that road. Get the limit reduced and the maintenance budget can be reduced dramatically.
So our frustration is yet another side effect of our knackered economy - politics again, but not driven from where you might expect

At the moment the limit is 28 or 30mph depending on the age of bike (28mph is newer) - (I think that's how it works).
So would 16 year old's mopeds have to then be restricted to 20mph??

If town limits were lowered to 20 i wonder if they would change the 50cc Moped laws for 16 year old's.
At the moment the limit is 28 or 30mph depending on the age of bike (28mph is newer) - (I think that's how it works).

Aside from the fact the 30mph limit is very widely ignored and unenforced 20 would be absolutely lethal, imagine being a situation where a moped couldn't even drive though a town with precious little overtaking places without causing a tailback of angry drivers. 30 is dangerous enough on an NSL road as it is,
