Is the wing flange butting up hard against the inner winner flange at all?? if so trim a little bit of the wing flange off and try again to close the bonnet shut line up.

Hi Sonikk.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I've not done much on the mini. Thanks for the comment. The wing will budge up a bit and I can see that I can shave a bit off the flange round the headlight to give me a better sized gap. Just waiting for this snow to clear as my carport is now like a cave (and its freezing lol) then I'm going to make a proper effort to get her finished.. She WILL be done this year..

Cheers, Joe

Hi All.

Not a massive update. I've started work on the mini again. Over the Christmas period the car wasn't touched much so I've been combating bits of surface rust that had appeared and because of the snow, which melted so fast the mini got filled with water as it came through my carport roof. Never mind.. haha.

I have welded up the aerial hole on the new wing as I don't like the aerial there. I am going to have an internal aerial I think.

Thanks for looking. Tomorrow I am going to have a look at sorting the inner wing flanges and get them back to the shiny stuff.
Cheers, Joe

Hi all.
Another mundane update I'm afraid. I've got some new bits for the engine

Posted Image

All I need now is a new oil pump and a clutch and the engine can start to be put back together. I am using the original 998 a+ engine with a 1098 cam and a 1098 head. I know the power gain wont be that significant but I got the bits cheap and my original 998 head is chipped round the water inlet. I still have to get the head skimmed to get the compression ratio right and have new valves put in and also have it converted to unleaded (so quite a lot then haha)

I have also bought some door frame repair panels although I have now realised they're both the same so I'll have to nip back to Nottingham mini bis tomorrow and swap one of them.
Posted Image

Has anyone had experience fitting these panels? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Haha.

Thanks for looking (sorry for the untidy garage pictures haha)
Joe

Hey. Thanks for the comments. Glad you've enjoyed my work lol. I hope to make some proper progress soon. I've got to nip back to the mini shop with one of my door frame repair panels so that's basically all the time gone that I had spare for the mini. Ah well.. haha. Good luck on your 'mini session tomorrow. Joe

Hi all. Glad we're starting to see the back of this cold weather! I've started to sort of a few outstanding bits that need refurbishing. I started today with the steering rack. I decreased it and gave it a going over with the wire brush as there was a bit of surface rust showing. I then rust treated it. I left the old gators on just to protect the insides etc.

This car actually had an MOT... Lol

Is this a worth while thing to replace? The car drove ok (except the brakes) so I'm unsure if its worth replacing or just painting it up with new gators and track rod ends..

Thanks for looking
Joe

Mmm not seen those repair panels like that before joe

The ones you normally see are these

Your ones will need a bit of thinking about especially if the rust has worked its way up and around the bottom of the door.

Hi darren
Thanks for the reply. I think it should be OK. I will investigate further when I have removed the Gators. I just left them on to try and stop any debris etc from getting into the rack etc.
Cheers. Joe

Hi sonikk.
Thanks for the reply. I recently found a guy who will hand you a refurbed door(new skin etc) for £69 and also your old door. I think the repair pieces I got would be OK but I think ill go down the route of a freshly skinned door.. I think £69 is quite reasonable. What do you think? Cheers. Joe

What my idea of a refurbed door is and what another's is is a different story. After doing three very recently and the amount of work involved in getting them totally rust free costs more than £69. I have another three to do yet and there is no way i could even do them for £69.

Sounds blunt i know but there is no point in mincing words.

Hi Sonikk.
Thanks for the reply. I was sceptical about it too to be fair. I thought it sounded cheap. I appreciate your advice. It is £69 plus your old door though.. But there again you can pick them up for a few quid on eBay that aren't in very good nick. So I dunno.. Haha.. I think you're right though.
Here is the link that I found anyway so you can have a look

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/mini-door-doctor-refurbed-Classic-mini-doors-65-exchange-/33087023095

I have primed the steering rack today. It looks a bit rough round the edges though. I will prime it again before painting with hammerite.

When you look at the price of a non gen door skin and the cost of a lower repair section then where's the profit?? that's what makes me wonder to be honest.

I see what you mean. I struggle to see how the guy could make money.. Progress has drawn to a Halt again this week due to some of the local 'darling' teenagers demolishing my front garden wall. Lol.. Homeownership never ends! Haha
