Hi joe it's coming along nicely puts me to shame the pace you are working. I am going to be doing the same as you and welding up all the drain holes on the floors and boot I feel they are only a bad thing to keep as most of the rust seems to start with them keep up the good work

hi darren. thanks for the possitive comments. glad to know someones reading my progress! haha. I just see the drain holes as. rust trap too. (what are they for anyway?!) doesn't take long just to run the welder round them. I plan on welding the unused bulkhead holes too. cheers. Joe

nice welds now buddy, it's all the little patches that take the time isn't it >_<

i think the idea of the drain holes was so that if (sorry, i mean when ;D) the floor pans fill with water, you can knock them out to drain the water but what are you then supposed to do ? as knocking the bungs out destroys them  we got rid of most of them from welding in new panels but the rest weren't rusty so we left bad enough alone and rust treated them and covered them with seam sealer to help prevent water seepage :shy: we knocked out the three in the battery box to let the boot breath :proud:

keep up the great work pal

Rhys

cheers for the comment rhys.. they're just daft. they put them under the bitumin stuff on the floor so when they leak water in you don't realise till it's too late. seems daft to me.. lol.anyway... hopefully when I have finished there will be no water leakage anywhere... I had a ford puma once.. that was like driving a mobile foot spa around! it was dreadfully in winter as the carpets froze solid! lol. we could never trace where it was getting in either...
cheers. Joe

Enjoying the progress! :D Your weldings looking better, i have to agree with you, im going to be patching up the drainage holes in the floor too. They seem rather pointless.

Keep up the good work!

hi.
thanks for the comment. I think welding just takes practice. to start with I didn't really have much idea but I think I'm leaning now..
I can't understand why a car manufacturer would continue to put another source of water ingress into a car that already had the reputation of a bit of a rot box for so many years.. without changing the deign.. lol. I think that the Rover bosses over the years just didn't care about what they were making very much. under my back seat there is very little topcoat. it just looks like overspray. and as a result.. rust! haha.
cheers. Joe

Hi Everyone.
It's official, I am fed up of finding rust!
How can I not have noticed this?!
Posted Image

I went round all this with the grinder a few months ago...

Posted Image

Urrgggghhhh.. Gotta get this thing painted and protected soon... The rust doesn't take long to take hold..

Anyway, I cut it all out..

Posted Image

And welded a new piece in..
The rear seat,

I am starting to think that a new rear bench/boot floor panel would have been a better option.. Oh well, Onward and upward.. We need to make mistakes to learn from them..

I will grind the welds down when the car is on it's side. I am sick of banging my head for one day!

Thanks for looking, Joe.

Hi everyone. Not much progress today. I welded the new rear subframe resting bit onto the repair I did yesterday. It came out ok. I will grind the welds down when the car is on its side. Really fed up of faffing about under the car. It's really awkward to get in properly with tools.

I also found some photos of the car before work started.. I felt quite sad after looking at them.. Lol

Don't let it get you down joe if the shell is bare why not roll it on its side onto an old mattress or a couple of old tyres I found mine in a layby and make the repairs to the floor and boot area so easy. Keep it up and keep the goal in mind you are progressing much faster than most on here so should all start to come together soon enough

hi joe, don't get disappointed about how many repairs your boot floor needs...in hind sight i should have replaced the hole boot floor as it was quite thin and we ended up welding in 6 patches and replacing the entire bumper lip and rear third of the boot floor with 3 mm bar and plate, at least is nice and sturdy though

my mom got a load of photos developed yesterday and it was quite a shocker seeing how bad the rust was on cliff when we got him :ohno: lol

keep up the great work bud

Rhys

Thanks mate. I really hope so. She will certainly be stronger.. Still have no idea how she was held together before as her sills were so bad. Lol.
Thanks for the comment. Joe
