nice patches mate :proud: i had to make pretty much the exact same repairs to my boot O_O (spooky)

as with the colour, that's a problem i came up against, there is just so much choice  that's why i brought an LE so i was almost stuck with the colour :shy: but i like it any way :D for less than £30 for the ram pipe and filter, you can't go wrong =]

thanks for the comments guys. I might just keep cherry the same colors as she is at the moment. cherry red with a black roof. I can always get another project when she's finished. lol.
I think baby blue sounds like a good plan. I always like that color on a mini. it suits the shape.

I am unsure on the repairs I have done today. they're strong and I know there's nothing wrong with them but they're a bit messy.. I know you won't see them though.

cheers for the comments
joe

Hi All
Not done much today. The weather has been too nice. Went for a drive with the top down in the ' 5 ' to give her a run.
I made some sill stiffners for the passenger side. I also rust treated inside the sill which had somehow become rusty even though it shouldn't be getting wet. I also primed inside the sill to seal it.I will use chassis paint then waxoyl eventually.

I think my fabrication work is getting better. Only took a bit of persuasion with the grinder to fit.
They aren't welded in yet though.
Oh I also put a good coat of rust reverter over the underside of the boot as where I had previously taken the underseal etc off had started to get surface rust. I will Sort it properly when we have the car on it's side.

Thanks for looking. Joe. :)

nice idea with the sill stiffeners joe :genius: i was going to something like that but we just replaced the inner sills with 4mm angle iron so it should be strong enough :teehee:

Hi Rhys.
Thanks for the comment. I didn't think of that! Great idea! I've made them now though. Lol. Used up all my metal plate that I had now though. :( haha. I made them from the same pattern we used for the other side. They're not my design though so I won't take the credit.
Cheers. Joe.

even if the car isnt getting wet, the air is really humid, so the car will still rust :( almost bought a 30, but the guy who was supposed to sell it to me, decided he couldnt wait 2 days for me to pick it up so sold it to someone else :(

hey, thanks for the comment bud. there are always 30s about on eBay in various states of repair. in my opinion the 30 is one of the better special editions as it came with more 'bits' as standard that are worth keeping.. ie, alloys, leather seats, leather steering wheel etc. also they're still a 998 so insurance is a bit better if you're younger or just past your test. if a 30s what you want then I'd hold on a bit. I had a standard city a while ago and it had nothing in terms of kit compared to the 30..
thanks for looking. joe

Hi some great work so far but a quick question on the inner sill stiffeners, the one at the tear will it not get in the way of the original one that ties in the heel board and arch closure plate? I'm no expert by any means so please don't take offence just didn't know if you knew there was one in that area already. If your unsure of the part I am on about check out my build thread or even better have a look at sonikk4 and project erm for much better work lol. Again don't take offence I'm not even sure the original stiffener is required just something you migh want to look into I'm sure someone that knows more than me will either confirm or put me right lol

Hi Darren.
Thanks for the comment. Good to know people are looking. Lol. As for the sill stiffener, I think it should be ok for Clarence. We did the same thing on the other side before we put the new doorstep panel in.

When we took the old sill off there were about 3 layers consisting of, original sill, oversill and another oversill of some kind to remove. Inside there wasn't anything other than rust so it was difficult to see what should be there.. I felt like I was on Time Team! Haha. I hope we've done it right.. I'll have. Look through your build and see what you've done. Cheers. Joe

Haha, I was just looking and I honestly can't find it.. Lol. I thought they were needed... Maybe they're not... I have no idea.. I am sure I read somewhere there should be some sort of filling plates inside the sills.. I can't find them on somerford which is where I was sure I'd seen them.... Anyway, if they're not needed I'm sure they can do no harm.. Lol.. Thanks for looking matey. Joe

Extra sill reinforcement can never be a bad thing. If you have seen them before they could of been part of the slinging brackets used on the factory to move the cars around when building. But like you say can't do any harm to have them.

I'll be watching this we are kind of st the same point but you work much faster than me

Hi All.
Not much to report today.

When offering up a new rear quarter repair panel I noticed that the paint was going brown.. I sanded it off and sure enough the repair panel I had got was rusty! So I got rid of the rust and etch primed it.

Then I welded up some of the drain holes in the floor as I just see them as a rust trap waiting to happen.

The welds still need dressing properly though. I haven't had time today.

Whats everyones thoughts on welding the drain holes up and also the unused bulkhead holes? Is it worth while or is it a waste of time?

Thanks for looking! Joe.
