Hi,

It's more a money problem, you can go from a basic stage 1 kit to a fully tuned and balanced engine.

What's your goal ?

Cheers,

Phil

SPI or MPI?
If its the SPI, first thing you need is the cooper ECU as the standard one wont cope with the modifications.

Spi has a distributor, MPI has a coil pack - and a front mounted radiator, unless it was built for Japan.

It will be an SPI, which are easier to tune than a MPI.

I'd get a ported and polished head, polish and port the inlet manifold, lcb manifold and recent exhaust (RC40), decat pipe. 1.5.1 roller tip rockers.

Il take a pic of engine bay today & post it up. Would it need a remap after a stage 1 kit?

No, no need remap, even with a "stage 3" head.
The Cooper ECU (ref MNE101070) can go to about 85 HP. If you start from 50HP, you'll notice something :-)

It's capable of remapping itself to a degree.

You need to swap the ECU for the Cooper one, that is capable of remapping and can cope with a lot of mods

Both ECU's can adapt to some extent to alterations, but nothing drastic. The only difference with the cooper one is that it has a slightly richer acceleration mixture. Where did you get the ''it can cope with a lot more mods'' from?
