I think i got it! (Doing the school run currently)
I from the underside, i drilled a hole in it (stating with a small hole) then i stuck a screwdriver in it. Hopefully it'll hold and not rip the end of the brake fitting that is left...

It won't hurt if it does, what's left of it is effectively a nut 'n bolt fastened through the hole. You could put a female pipe union on the end to hold the male thread with and turn the nut against it. It'd probably need a little packing to stop the union screwing all the way to the nut - a small countersunk screw poked through the union should do.
