so then.

this car could have started as a 1071 cooper lets say 1963.
but then in say 1988 some one sold its logbook and vin plate.
then the owner of the shell contacted dvla for new id. and dvla sent them this plate and new id.

No that is not how it works.

What are the first three digits of the chassis numnber after the K-A2S4?

At the risk of queering the thread, I have to say I have some misgivings that this car is already offered for sale elsewhere on the web in the O/P's trade advert as a Cooper S.

the buyer was more than happy with the mini, even though i explained it didnt leave the factory a cooper s.

Well that's fair enough then, as long as you were honest and they knew what they were buying. It's probably the next buyer or the one after that who is going to get really stung....

that will be up to the new owner but with the sounds of it he will restore it over the next few years.

Glad I could help a small amount as the days went by last week, if only by being able to explain from experience what the V5 was telling us.

Presumably you took the advice of this wise man ...

That's a shame, it's probably worth what its up for, but it needs a better description
