My car is fairly standard apart from a slightly bigger exhaust does anybody else have a HUGE problem with speed bumps in paticular the speed cushion type. If i go over them i bottom out everytime,if i go through the middle of them when i can get through okay But i am unsure if this is legal as it forces me to swerve into the middle of the road when i drive around town. Normal speed bumps are okay as long as i take it slow (15-20mph max).

Whats the Law on these, surely if i pay my road tax its not unreasonable to want to be able to drive on the road at the speed limit which is 30mph without the risk of smashing my sump or losing my exhaust, and if i did happen to cause damage to my car do i have any rights to compo. I'm not driving like an idiot? if theres issues with speeding why not stick speed cams up everywhere at least they dont damage my car.

I think with any Mini your going to have problems with speed bumps i just go really slow over them as thats what they are there for to slow you down just more so for us Mini owners, you could check that your car doesnt sit exceptionally and if it does time to check some things over.. your always going to have problems with speed bumps though unfortunately

what exhaust?

Had a twin box rc40 that scraped on bumps, up to the point it eventually snapped the hangers.

Cut out the middle silencer to make a single box rc40 and dont have any problems at all now

No idea what sort of exhaust system it is to be honest, it was fitted when i got the car, its straight down the middle with a large oval end. the closest thing i can find to it is this http://www.ebay.co.u...=item5ae5fc4122

hate to say but even modern cars such as mondeos and the above clio bottom out on some speed bumps, all depends on how steep the ramp is but yes when it comes to the small island ones one wheel on each of the island type ramps is how i have driven my mini in london to and from work >_<

Id bet its the back box dragging over the bumps as it will be the lowest point. Are there scratches in it/welds been flattened?

Is it fitted as well as it can be, nice and snug?

Id imagine you will either be faced with raising the suspension or changing the exhaust style.

That will be sapping power with such a large bore exhaust as well

Speed cushions knocked out all the front suspension bushes on my classic Mini on my route to work, if I straddle them the sump and exhaust were in danger..........now I mostly drive a New MINI on the same route and like most modern cars it is no longer a problem as it has a wide enough track to go over them without damage.........guess the bumps are not designed for older 'narrow' cars like the classic Mini. Councils have to build them to specified size and heights....a few locally were re-done as they were not to correct spec.

I agree with Mini Van, my sister drives a 2002 Clio 1.2 (All standard) and that scrapes on some speedbumps around my area (Buckhurst hill council bastards!) those things are like mountains, bloody range rovers would get stuck on them.

To the best of my knowledge its all fitted tightly, i recently fitted a new subframe so its all on tight and snug. I just cant see the point in speed bumps, i pay for flat roads not bumpy ones. If i do damage my car, going under the speed limit on the road because of a speed bump, Whos fault is that? Surely someone is liable? or am i just being wishful.
