BHP per tonne -

BMW Mini Cooper S - 1210kg seems to be the weight.

1210 / 1000 = 1.21 tonnes

180bhp / 1.21 tonnes - 148.76BHP/Tonne

No standard MINI has 180 bhp.

As said, it will depend on what sort of "race you want" as a Mini might be initially be quicker off the line as already said but eventually power will take over. Gearing will also have a massive factor too. Our Spi ( slightly modded ) is quite nippy and isnt that much slower off the line than my MINI but once its wound up, the newer car leave it standing........

Would be an Interesting test,

A Classic Mini and A new Mini round a Go-Kart track, a place where speed isn't that much but cornering ability and grip

Edit - Purely for sam.

A bit o/t, but why is everyone going on about "road holding"? It's like we're stepping back into the 1950s!

I assume you mean grip ?

I think the classic mini would get destroyed at anything more than 30mph. I've been in a mates clio 182 vs a cooper S and it was a close one, so the cooper S is a quick car.

I'd say to beat an S your looking at forced induction, around 130bhp, decent traction and a dry road.

so that i dont like a total tw*t... i would have suggested looking on autotrader, as they give a rough 0-60 value when listing a car's details. maybe look at those and then decide what you think your 0-60 is.

I used to have a Vauxhall 1600 rally mini had 160bhp it could blow the doors of a EVO6 if it got traction from the off, at about 60 the EVO came past like it was standing still. On country lanes the EVO had no chance at all.

The ERA will give hot hatches a little wake up off the line, but not quick enough to risk embarrassment.

Done that with a sec gen bini, the bini is approx 10 secs slower total after 3 laps. They're not agile at all.

If my 160bhp civic can just beat a cooper s, little old mini is going to need some nice engine work done!
