i assume it can be done, never tried it but i had a pair of bowls that looked as though they had been done, machined on the faces as opposed to normal finish. daft thing is i didn't think to measure the angle

if you do decide to sell by the way give me a shout, am always after h's.

cheers

I will look into the possibility of doing the machining when I'm back at Uni (the beauty of being an engineering student and founding member of the engineering society :) It also helps that the supervisors all love classic cars). I think that making the spacers would be my best and easiest option, this will be simple on the mill and leave the carbs original.

I may give up on the H4's later in the year if they become too much hassle and switch for a set of HS4's. You will have the first shout if I do, but I think a bit more that £65 will be required :) Let me know if you have the correct float bowls please as this will solve all problems.

The H4's are my dream carbs for the perfect engine bay so I'm going to give them my best shot.

Thanks

would you be able to angle them enough with a spacer but still get the holding up bolt through the arm on the float bowl?

suppose it is best to keep the bowls at a standard angle, there's more demand for them as non mini carbs.

what engine/car they going on? always find they look a bit out of place on newer stuff with all the brass on them.

By spacer I mean a shim that will sit between the carb bodies and manifold to level out the float bowls.
They will be going on a 1310 A series 1275 GT block. The car is a 1978 1000 and is very retro. Obviously the engine bay is retro as well with 60's period touches, and lots of brass. Brass topped radiator and nuts etc. By the way, the reason I love them is for the brass and the slightly more fancy design.

Can you see any reason that re angling the entire carb Assembly to level the bowls wouldn't work ?

ah, sorry thought you meant a spacer between the bottom of the carb and the bowl mounting.

why not make a manifold?

I would make a custom manifold but I don't have a welder or much experience of using one. Also I already have a 12A661 cooper manifold which I would like to use (it has brass bolts :). However I will look into making a more efficient manifold design that does the required job.

You've got me thinking now :)
I have plenty of time to come up with a design.

Thanks
