i took my car in to see if i can fix a puncture and they wanted me to buy a new tyre by saying it was perrished and worn, when i asked a friends second opinion he said it was b**locks and pointed me in the right direction. i think they must think were all gullable and try to bust it into us!

While we're on the subject of rims and tyres, does anyone know if you can change tyres on split rims (3 piece lets say) by splitting them and then putting them back together? Seems to avoid any potential opportunities for some wrench monkey to damage them while fitting!

Whoever fits tyres on my rims has a Pikey hovering over him like a hawk making sure things get done right (I actually had one guy tell me to leave the workshop once, so I took my keys, tightened up the one nut he'd got off, and went somewhere else!). So far the worst that's happenned is that some kid almost stuck the balance weights on the outside of the rim...... Fingers crossed.

Don't think so, the three pieces need to be sealed to each other and if the tyres on when you're trying to do it you'll not be able to paint it in.

Oh yeah, and I do that to Pikey with cars that I like. But then I only take the Mini to one place now to get the tyres changed and they are pretty good to Mini's as the owner has an excellent Mk1 Cooper S and a Works rally car too I think. They know what to do with 10" rims!

I'm lucky in that I have two independant tyre specialists within miles of each other in Warrington and both stock Yokohama, Bridgestone, Pirreli, Goodyear and Michelin to name a few. They both have the correct rim claws to with protective jaws for alloy wheels and clamp from the inside of the rim rather than the outer edge. One is Jeffreys High performance Tyres and the other is http://www.bromleytyres.co.uk/, but I have never had a problem with National Tyres In Warrington either, but have in other towns. I think the regular places are pretty much hit and miss.

I heard you can since you have to run tubes in split rims anyway?? ;D

We tryed to get MADMAX's tyres of his 3 piece saxons, and with 3 people it still didnt work. They are still tubless though and so need sealing around the edges of the rim.

I took a puncture of mine to Quikfit. Knowing that its completly fixable being in the centre of the tyre and tread. But still the guy said that the tread was coming away from the tyre (obviously thinks its off a 1000bhp drag car or something) and says I need a new tyre so I laughed at him and walked off.
