And pleased to say it started after a couple of turns of the key ???
I had to do some slight adjustments of the carb with the help of my colour tune but it runs great

very pleased

And that was that

now this takes up up to about 12 months ago when the car took a back seat jobs at home took priority

well we have to keep our better Halves happy ?

So fast forward to this year Got this for Christmas

94375-D2-A-0-C38-4-CCB-9-D99-EBA5936412-

64-FCFB4-D-7823-4337-9-FE7-ED43-F932-A45

8-F45-A411-AAFD-446-C-B0-F2-C8-E29-B9532

now I’m sure I’m not alone here but I always look back at what I’ve done and in some cases I’m not 100% happy this was the case with the boot hinge bolts I’d changed them for stainless but they were just too long in fact they damaged the boot seal so I was forced to cut a piece out which didn’t please me

D541-B13-A-F72-C-435-E-8651-1-B1-A821-EF

so I sourced these from Smifys bits much better quality and fitted flush

7-DA9-F174-2542-4326-88-EE-149-FE584-EB1

just got to get another boot seal
I've deleted the air vents this obviously left holes in the dash which I was going to place speakers in but I’ve changed my mind ( for now  ) and fitted the end part of the vent

DB6-E1-B91-1-C65-481-E-9522-479-FE7342-E

found out the headlamp rings and after a quick polish they went back on

6827-D62-C-2695-4561-BA2-E-EA3-C3-A4-CC1

now one job I’d been putting off was fitting the grill

no way was I going to use self tappers so stainless rivnuts were used ( forgot to take a pic )

after much fettling I am happy with the end result

E06-F1726-E4-ED-4-A70-AD6-B-3387-FD6-D18

Just little jobs to do now

the horn was so in went a new one

4-CC8-AE51-4-F02-4-CDC-BA37-5497-DFCC042

F2-C83095-B890-4-B55-987-C-9-D278-F28-D5

now here’s a really annoying problem that I know lots of folk have had

crap rubber parts

now this car has never seen the road and I’m having to change these parts already

bloody disgrace mini parts suppliers sort this out !!

i hate doing work needlessly just because manufacturers can’t be bothered to make a decent product

rant over moving on

15-CBBDC4-7-F70-48-C7-B544-8-F1-E342-FE7

I’m now using poly where possible

I know the rubber quality is terrible. I find Autoglym vinyl and rubber care, sprayed liberally once a year really helps though. I've had some cheapo knuckle dust covers on for 6 years now and they haven't cracked yet.

Looking at prolonging the life of the rubber components I’ve replaced I’ve used some red rubber grease

see how this gets on

so far so good

528-E2-D6-F-92-D4-4-A98-A42-A-362-BAA151

now with the end in sight it was about time I cleaned up the wheels

a few before and after shots

I’ve got some 10inch mini special wheels that will be going on eventually but that’s a little way off I might as well get some use out of the car before I start pulling it apart again

I think they cleaned up ok

now the keen eyed among you will see I’ve gone archless on this build (I just like the retro look ) the plan was to fit the chrome edge trim but what a nightmare I tried every which way to fit the dam stuff heat hot water pre bending it on a strip of steel but no matter what I did it just kinked I threw the towel in after ruining 3 sets of trim

so I’ve opted for a black rubber strip bit of a compromise but hey ho it will do for now

so that brings us up to date

I’ve a couple of small jobs left to do theses are number plates replace the original mini city decals replace the boot seal and then apply a good coat of clear wax to the underside of the car

hope to have this all done by the end of March

I’ll leave you with a few pics of how it sits now

thanks for looking in

Wow. It looks great!

The trick with the chrome trim us to buy the decent one (lots of cheap immitations that kink horribly) and not to use heat or hot water. Just go for it feeding it onto the seam bit by bit manipulating it with your hands.

works everytime for me.

Cheers

Ben
