Hi

i am trying to build a custom internal gear selection system compatable for a rod change box for my mini project. only reasons are because classic race car mods like this is a theme for the car, all tubular and mechanical 8) like my steering column, if you have seen my build. 1980 mini miglia.

now, i have come up with an idea that in theory should work, using rose joints, pivots etc and will probably build it and see if it will work. if not try a different route etc

my question is has anyone else tried it? got any pictures of one they have seen at a show? Anyone got close up picture of the one in the gomshall mini??? only one i have seen and it was only a small picture in a mini mag feature!

also, anyone got any pictures of the internals of how the rod change selector housing works etc?

cheers! harri

Also interested

main concerns - how to stop engine smell getting into cab , and shorter throw gear lever - is it hard to get in gear ?

I wonder if a different gear stick linkage would work ?

The internals are really simple its just a ball going in a socket type system which rotates & pushes/pulls the rod in&out of each gear (if that makes any sence  )

to answer sladgehammers question about engine smell in cab check your exhaust y-branch is bolted up tight with no leaks & just use a bulkhead grommet with abit of genral purpose greese around it.

It's nothing like that KAD kit. I'm not using any standard parts like just moving the housing inside. I want the hole thing from the knob to the selector shaft to be custom made. Also, i think I have it Sussed now. Just need to get some rose joints, bar and more tubing on order to make it on tuesday:P

Just was wondering if anything like this has been tried and if there was any pictures:P

I notice everyone is mounting them back of the original - is that comfy ? or is it to compensate for the change in angle ?

I was thinking of mounting on the tunnel at the same angle - but may cause too much of a change in angle ?

That's a nice set up but I don't want to use the rod change housing. Trying to build it so it is all custom linkage.

Kirby this will be one gorgeous piece of manufacturing elegance if you do it properly.

******* it up and it'll look and feel like a dogs dinner.

I know this is of no help. :)
