just after a bit of advice and i know pictures are vital and will try get them tomorrow, basically a transit connect rear ended me today, caved the boot in and bent bumper, you can now see and get your hand inside the boot (even though its locked) the boot lid is touching spare tyre, rear bumper badly dented and rear drivers side light smashed, not sure if the panel is dented or not, car only had its welding done in june so it was in good nick... guy says he doesnt want to go thru insurance but i have details just incase, what you guys reckon to sort this out, just wondering whether ots worth buying another one :(

Thanks and will try get picts up asap

I'd go through insurance, it will have an affect on your premium but at least you know that the bloke can't just run away. His insurance will have to pay out.

Boot wise, as Dan said, try and see if the boot floor is done in, obviously some pictures would help but if its dented the bumper it may have pushed the hinge panel back and the boot floor, which is a-lot of damage.

if its repairable without extensive work, or something which you think can be done, then make him pay up without going through insurance. It saves you having to get the car recorded as catc/d if you did want to put it back on road. If its something with is expensive or the guy ends up being an arse about it, go through insurance and make then pay for everything! lol

i'm guessing he thinks it's a old mini and can pay you off for less than £100 once he gets the quote he will use an insurance company

get a quote from somewhere that deals with body work on classic cars and not a modern car crash repairs

Hopefully its a doable repair, most rear/boot panels are avalible if its pushed the subframe into the heelboard it'll be more expensive.

I agree with another poster, tell your insurance ASAP. Go and get a quote from a reputable classic repair centre. Then tell the guy who hit you, what the quote is, but you want the cash up front if he is to pay. The chances are he doesn't want to go through the insurance as he has hit a lot of people and doesn't want it affecting his premium. It is your car and you want it put right, don't fall for the "I'm a nice guy help me out please"

yeah, gonna get someone look at it, how can i check if subframe has moved/twisted etc? then i can just tell the guy and be done with it, they own a local buisness and a MOT place said they aint short of a bob or 2, so maybe its cheaper for them to go thru insurance? just have to see, if i can check if subframe moved then that be great :)

If you go through his insurance and you have an agreed valuation policy yourself, then your insurer should fight for your car to be repaired if it's been valued for a reasonable amount. If you just have a standard mainstream policy though, then avoid going through insurance as you're car is likely to be written off if there is any significant damage to it and you will probably only get a few hundred quid or so back for it any way.

From bitter experience go and tell your insurance company the full details. Contrary to popular belief they are there to fight your corner so if they start to buck give them hell! On face value the damage may not appear to be too bad but a full inspection may reveal additional damage. PLEASE go and tell your insurance co. Steve.

best way is to take the car to somewhere that knows how to fix classic cars and leave it to them
