Once again, the motto seems to be 'if you need to do it, then do it, just don't talk about it'.
Mini shells carry little or no identification, especially the Mk.1 & Mk.2 cars. There are many well-known Minis which have been re-shelled, 24PK for example, but there doesn't seem to be an issue with them.

24pk was reshelled into a genuine new shell from the factory. Rally cars if trashed shell wise get reshelled into factory line ones like with no ID

Many of the works rally Mini's ID's numberplates, etc were simply swapped to another complete existing Mini, not just a new shell, also whenever an Austin needed to become a Morris for press/media shows, reports or ads.......a few were said to have accidently competed with Austin badges on the back and Morris on the front!
Stuart Turner said recently it made him laugh to see people arguing today over proving the originalty of the BMC Works Mini's with their chequered histories and swapped ID's.

I don't think it was re-shelled with a brand new shell. That was in 1964 and I was the guy who recovered it from the Isle of Man after Peter (Moon) rolled it.
I can assure you that a large number of crashed rally cars were re-shelled using good 850 shells that had poor mechanicals. I won't list any numbers or the V5 Police will be 'on the case(s)', but I can assure yoiu that what I say is absolutely true.
There is a lot of hypocracy over this, so I don't think I'll post on this thread any further.
