well i've done alot of research into engine specs and I think they've all said that the gixxer has a bit more power and torque than the R1 but I've seen so many different figures I don't know what to believe!
From what I've also heard on some of the bike forums is that it can also depend on how the engine was run-in from new.

heres a link to one of the best GSXR spec pages I found because it shows figures for all of the models - mine being a K4 2004

GSXR1000 SPECS

All I know is I've read up on the gixxer engine and the engineering and materials used on it is superb.

heres a link that shows a bit more info about the K4 engine

GSXR K4 info

Once I've done it I'm going to keep it as a my weekend fun car. I would like to do a few track days in it so I can see what it can really do, because after all you build a car to drive it, not stand there lookin at it....wots the fun in that?!!

at the the end of the day if you want an abortion of a car thats your choice but imho its not a mini when its not A series

the thing is, one of the car clubs i'm joined to specialises in hot-rods/modified retro's which at the moment inlcudes cars like an old Vauxhall Viva 2dr with supercharged zetec in it, MK1 Ford Consul with 5.7 Chevy engine, Vauxhall Cadett with Subaru Piaza 2.0 turbo engine etc etc.... the list goes on!

These all look like standard cars but all hide something special! Which is my aim with the MK1....I want it to look MK1 and original as possible but have that mental engine behind me. Only main give-away from far away will hopefully only be wide 13's on it.

Its still keeping original colour and having the wide group 2 arches with the chrome strip and wavy grill etc....

so if all goes well then it should look pretty good!

I know i'm not convincing the purists though LOL!

If you want to build it then do. Don't worry about the purists. People said it was sacrilage to chop up a pickup but i'm glad I did because at least the car is still on the road. Would probably still be sitting in the garden rusting away if I hadn't gone to z-cars with Ade.

The only thing i've noticed about the engine is that the oil cooler will need to be relocated as I don't think there will be enough air flow or enough room with it tucked up behind the bulkhead. Haven't done anything to it yet as i've been doing the pickup but got a weeks holiday now so should get some work done.

Kit not quite ready yet but email him for details, he sells all fibre glass stuff to... half the price of anyone else because he makes his own

He's only just finished making the jigs for it so will still be a little while before he makes the first one. The first one is also spoken for :w00t: :w00t: .

Are you mad? By all means do a z-cars, but why in a mk1 in that condition, i just think its abit of a shame to gut such a mint mini. I think you will regrett it later if you did. I think most people would rather do a z-cars in a much later shell.

And Baeumchen "i like the idea of takin an mk1, just because its hot rod style"

Hot rod style lol :w00t:

Good on ya mate its a shame to loose an original mk1 and my dads currently screeming at you through the monitor :P but yeah its deceiving although i think the 13's will make it look like a mk1 looker thats done up but i know you need them for traction

And if the mk1 is genuinely still on the road and you only paid £900 and its in reasonable nick id give you a grand if you wanted to make a profit without work :teehee:

thanx for the offer but but I'm too committed to it now. I did start to wonder though why I was spending so much money when I could just buy a superbike for about £4500 and save myself loads of money.....but that aint as good as having a crazy mini!!

Not much done on the car yet, just waiting to start building my car-port this wkend so I can keep it dry then get it home so I can start stripping it down. Also been doing my shed up and turning it into a workshop. Sharnt be long now, itching to get stuck in! Still waiting for my Metro 4-Pots to arrive that I bought from ebay....gotta go winge at bloke LOL

Next Mini show on 7th May so gonna try pic up some more bargains then aswell.
