Never took a photo of it, but someone had decided to rivet my scuttle panel, inner wings and wings on! Only realised when I started to cut away the scuttle and accidentally fell over (ripping off said wing and half the scuttle too)

Best bodge I've experienced!

Edit: I realise the title is for welding, but mine was concerning a lack of!

I think we can all add pictures of our various bodges on our little motors. One i cannot post as i never took photos as this was in the early nineties. There was a chap who i knew in the RAF who did a wheel arch repair to a Merc. From a distance it looked ok with seam sealer etc however on close inspection he had welded nothing to nothing, literally. His weld had missed the repair completely apart from two tacks that held the patch in place.

Glasses needed there i think. And i ended up doing the repair again for the chap a bit later on.

im sure u'll be fine if you compare ur welds to this page. as long as yours look better then u'll be ok. also don't practice on the mini, start on something random first and get used to it. for me it was scary on the mini because I didn't want to damage it and my practices were a lot better, just take your time and u'll b ok

Yes, plenty of practice and your welding will be just fine. Almost anyone can learn MIG welding of thin sheet, as long as they have a steady hand, fairly good eye, and some common sense, as well as reading the Haynes book or similar thoroughly, and/or going through the tutorials on the MIG welding forum until you know it inside out. It is nowhere near as skilled as the ancient art of gas welding, which I found to be a complete nightmare, nor do you need all the training that is necessary to weld bridges, boilers etc, because thin metal is far more forgiving than thick sections. You get far fewer problems with induced stresses, and don't need multiple runs to build up the thickness.

I recommend getting some offcuts of 0.9mm steel, cutting them into strips, and putting them back together again in various ways, for practice.
