Please Note I have added a post below (No 24) to explain why it is NOT a good idea to simply remove the thermostat !
I understand that you don't mean run it long term, however some people will assume that it is ok to do so. Edited by MRA
OK Point taken, as you stated it was only to diagnose as a temp measure, I forgot about those that might think its permanent.

I've rebuilt a few engines mates I'm pretty sure I know if my fan is tye wrong way around.
What you have to remember is were all giving suggestions to a problem your finding hard to cure

Also please remember that its not nice to be rude to those who are willing to help, and Kernowcooper is very well qualified to help you....
Something else worth remembering is that the fan being on the wrong way around is so much more common than you think, and Ive seen a lot with this fault over the years, and on engines that were built by people with a lot more engine building experience that yourself.

A good clean system with flowing air will do road speeds quite well.
edit ( late addition)
moving the thermostat housing undo the three studs (or sometimes bolts) and undo the ebgine steady if you have one,,, then just lean against the housing in a couple of different directions, it will pop the seal and slide sideways. if it is really seized you might use a soft rubber mallet , but no keen on that

yeah sorry just realised the mistake i made when typing it.. yeah what i meant was cooler temp use higher temp thermostat.. and vice versa.. but then again i think im using a 82 degrees one.. i honestly cant be sure
For Malaysian climate you need a 74° stat and possibly a 6 blade fan

without buying another try running without the thermostat fitted,
If you run your engine without a thermostat then you will get issues.... what happens and why,
1) the temperature sender gets cooler water, so drops down giving the appearance of reduced water temperature.
2) cylinder no 4 gets the hottest water because the flow is no wrong and water is not flowing to number 4 cylinder thus no or little cooling at number 4, however as there is no gauge you don't see this happening until it is too late :-(
You can remove the thermostats centre or fit a blanking plug to get better flow, but never run without one or the other.
