Hi guys,
I have a 1988 Mini Designer and need a quick solution to this engine conversion

I have a 1275A+ HIFF 44 carbed engine out of a 1.3 Metro City and i am trying to put it into my mini.
The question is i need to know if i need to modify the wiring in anyway?
The mini had no engine and was completely stripped (only the 998 A-Series loom left) so i also do not have any clue to what goes where.
Anyone able to tell me if any wiring modification is needed and if so any diagrams???

All the best,

Please be kind I'm a newbie here and need a quick reply, i tried to search but couldnt find what i was after.

You absolutely MUST get a circuit diagram. The Haynes Manual has the circuit diagrams for all years, so the differences can be seen.

I agree with you on that!!
My only problem being is that i knid of need to get the engine plumbed in today/tomorrow. I'm very good with car electronics so thats not a problem i just need to know if theres anything i need to do before i get everything in there just to find out i need to change something

The looms should be the same, a 1275 is no different to a 998.
But the wiring should be obvious where things go. But you will need to check a wiring diagram for clarification for coil wires etc. if you are pretty good at car electronics then go for it - less able people do!

You have few wires actually on the engine

1 a large plug which fits into the rear of the alternator
2 the temp sender wire
3 the coil wires 12v from the ign switch to the +side of the coil, and the wire from the distributor to the - side of the coil
4 the starter cable and 12v trigger from the switch to bring the solenoid in if the 1275 has a pre-engaged starter

Thats the basics to get you running the rest I would look at the wiring diagram.

oil pressure sender...white/brown

coil positive the loom will be white/pink and white/yellow but check your coil the loom will be for a ballasted coil

coil negative white/black

water temp sender green/white

solenoid spade terminal from ignition brown/red

may also be a smaller terminal which will be white/yellow

all browns down by the starter go to the threaded lug..

then alternator will be a 3 way plug with browns and a brown/yellow
