Hi

I have a pair of SU HS4 carbs on a SPC manifold fitted to my 1330 engine in a 1967 mini.

The problem I have is the fuel bowels are fouling on the bulkhead.

I have a couple of ideas to overcome this:

1) replace to and bottom engine steadies with adjustable ones. Cost will be fairly high thought at about £60 inc del

2) figure out how to move the carbs closer to the engine. The is a fairly thick insulating spacer between the carbs and manifold so could get thinner ones, but where from? And/or machine the carb face of the manifold,

Any thoughts or suggestion please

Spacers are available in a range of thicknesses direct from SU (search for Burlen Fuel Systems). Cheap and the appropriate fix.

Just about to say Manifold off a inline application like a sprite/midget, any numbers on the manifold or is it aftermarket?

Good point, where are they from? Are the float bowls level? If the float bowl spacers are rubber what colour is on what carb?

Hi

Spacer is 12mm thick. Manifold is aftermarket SPC as stated

Having now removed the carbs, itis the casting flashing on the right hand (looking at the engine) float bowle that's hitting ones the bolts that hold the plate that the heater pipies go tho.

Soi am going to, to start with, remove the flashing and machine the head of the bolt down

Dont forget any work you do static to get clearance may foul again under engine movement under power on/off
Can you pull the choke and get the choke tubes to drop fully. this is another area where clearance can be a issue, and striking and bending the tubes.

The float bowl is hitting? Are they level or not? I think black rubber float adaptors have always been for 10 or 20 degree applications (are they really black on both sides, isn't one grey?). Minis need 30 degree angle carbs.

Sorry , black and red would be a pair of adaptors, not black and grey.
