It's an odd one this, things shouldn't be that tight. You haven't got something like a late subframe mixed with an early steady rod have you? So the power unit is tilted backwards?

well I took the steady bar off to see how much movement I would get, not much but enough to get a small amount of extra forward tilt if I use an adjustable steady bar. This would give me a few more mum under the float bowl. When you say late my car is a 67 with, I believe the original two bolt subframe. Not sure about the steady bar that came with it.I would give Burlen a call and go through spacers with them. There are spacers up to 1" thick I think, and you can always stack them if you just stick a gasket between. Consider how far you can move them back and still have room for an air filter though, there's not a lot of room to start with! Also those little alloy caps on the dampers might hit the bonnet sooner or later!

well I can't think how,Could it also be that somehow the engine is sitting too low??

Also if block or head have been skimmed loads then that would also lower the carb heights....but probably by not alot.

no, if it was I would have needed special engine mountsIf the subframe is out of an automatic it would sit lower.
